Yeah there has.

And now every single on of them will get to find out/remember what it is like to have an average or below average LT.

We should all stand and applaud CS. He gave us his best for a decade and will be sorely missed.

2nd that. I knew he had stenosis and I was kind of holding my breath on this one. And the day is here. Chris is one of the best lineman in team history, a future Redskins Ring of Famer, and possibly even a HOF'er. I'll miss seeing big #60 out there. A real bummer. Wish you all the best CS, you'll be missed.

The front office however knew about his spinal condition as well as the injury history of Randy Thomas, and yet we pretended it was all good... Grrr. That annoys me, especially if we have to eat a huge cap # for him next year.

Has there been any confirmations yet?

I think I can confirm, but not 100% sure and not sure when the retirement would actually happen. Like would he IR the rest of the season and then retire in the offseason? I don't know.

Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire

Well if we pull a Buffalo and don't do anything to replace him we'll see just how easy it is to take for granted a Pro Bowl left tackle anchoring your line for 10 straight years. Sucks that it came down to this but I'm glad he's getting out now because I'm sure he's already got health problems that will be bothering him for a long time. I hope he doesn't end up as another case where you see those sad stories about linemen who have so many medical bills but are living in poverty because the NFL refuses to pay them for all the injuries they accumulated while playing in the NFL.

Thank you for being the rock of our line for the last ten years, here's to hoping you still have a bright future ahead in retirement CS.

And yes obviously this will expedite the overhaul of our line. So far it's looking like LT, RG, and RT will end up being priority moves in the offseason. Heyer is the only NFL quality backup I see on our roster at tackle, I think Rinehart can be a capable backup but I don't see him starting again mainly because there's this whole issue of him claiming he's healthy enough to play but the coaching staff saying his shoulder is keeping him out. There's something fishy about that.

Shooooooot. Does anyone have a link? This is just going to make it that much harder to rebuild our O-line. How is this going to impact our cap? Does he get his guaranteed money still?

I just heard this. He was a Redskin through and through! I only wish he could have reached the SB in his stellar career.

Yeah I guess we complain alot as a fan base. But just think how he will never know what it feels like to make it to the big game. He and Janson were the best for so many years now look at us. Makes me kind of sick.

That brings up an interesting point -- as far as Redskins tackles go, outside of Lachey and Jacoby of the late 80's/early 90's, can anyone think of a better left and right tackle duo than Samuels and Jansen at their peak?

Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire

As weird as this sounds, the Thomas and Samuels career ending injuries are blessing in that it woke up the team and management about the real needs of this team. This was the biggest fear going into the season and yet nothing was done about it and then it did happen. Things happen for a reason.

i agree. there is no way the skins can NOT ADDRESS THE O-LINE now. it simply must be their main goal this off season (outside of getting a new coach,gm and qb)

Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire

The Redskins should have had somebody ready to move in at LT when Chris first started hurting. But they've always tried to put together an offensive line by patching it with older players, usually that nobody else wants.

Smart decision on his part. Best of luck to him and his family.
