Re: Alex Smith Cut
He left a little bitter but I imagine now he sees why he was cut.. Nobody was taking that chance

Re: Alex Smith Cut
While this was inevitable, I think he was holding out hope of playing again. I just don't think he got the offers that would have made it worthwhile. Moving his family across the country for probably a 1 year deal and already getting paid by WFT anyway probably made little sense in the cold light of day. For me he's the kind of guy the NFL wants so I hope he takes up coaching. But I could equally see him go into politics. Who wouldn't vote for him if he has a good platform?

Re: Alex Smith Cut
Link to confirm since I didn't see one.
https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1384171837156827138 It was the right decision. I was hoping he's stick on as the backup one more year but the team does need to consider its future. Jacksonville was his only hope and Coach Meyer said he has serious concerns about Alex's medical status, so a playoff run and hanging it up after the greatest comeback story every...that's a fine way to go out. My daughter can still wear her Smith jersey with pride and won't have to see him on another team. Thanks for the memories and inspiration, Alex. We're a lucky fanbase to have gone through this story with you.

Re: Alex Smith Cut
I wonder what he's going to do now. Not that he has to do anything. I'd chill.
But given his track record, I don't see him sitting still for very long. I wonder if he'll try to stay close to the game -- coaching, front office, or broadcasting .... Anyway -- a good dude. He represented us well. Glad he wore the burgundy and gold. |

Re: Alex Smith Cut (update: retired)
Kudos to Smith for the great comeback.. Unfortunately it sounds like he still hasn't fully recovered yet so I'm not surprised that there are no teams that would sign him as a starter. At least Smith and the world know that he was able to overcome one of the most difficult things in life.
I wonder if Smith would be interested in a coaching position in near future. |

Re: Alex Smith Cut (update: retired)
He’s building a new house in my neighborhood and it looks like it will be done relatively soon. Will be cool to see him around town. I ride by the house most days. Kinda neat.

Re: Alex Smith Cut (update: retired)
I’m getting a little tired of Alex whining in these articles. Lost just about all respect for him. Sad really.

Team wanted to him to retire to save us from his huge cap ramifications. Alex Smith wanted to get as much of that contact money as he possibly could before we cut him as his last pay day. We were dumb to give him that kind of contract nobody saw coming. "Patronizing" is the right word bc there was no way he could be a starting QB in this league again. Yet he wanted to pretend he could still play 16? RR was supposed to go along with pretending he was anything but an injury liability? His calf getting muscle cramps and fatigue after 3 or so games proves it. Take your millions and gtfo here. |

Re: Alex Smith Cut (update: retired)
Kinda wish now we would have just cut him loose last offseason. At that point nobody would have brought him in.
