Better looking than some past draft caps.

Re: Draft Week Baby!! - Thread 3.0

And now the Falcons are accepting offers for Julio Jones.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ia-peter-king/

Surprises? Keep an eye on Atlanta. I can’t predict any bombshells. But a few things would not surprise me. Most notably, the Falcons putting the framework of a trade together for star wideout Julio Jones, and making the trade effective June 2. That way, Atlanta could split Jones’ cap charge between 2021 and 2022 instead of getting bashed with it all this year. So if such a trade happens, I expect it could involve a future pick or picks, nothing this year. (A future second-round pick as compensation seems fair to me.) Because such a trade wouldn’t be official till June, no picks in this draft could be involved. As for the interested team or teams, I would guess Las Vegas; Jon Gruden couldn’t resist Antonio Brown, and I doubt he could resist Julio Jones. New England too, and a couple of teams with clear receiver needs—Tennessee and Baltimore.

Now, the Falcons don’t really want to trade Julio Jones. He’s a franchise legend. But he’s 32, entering his 11th season, coming off a banged-up year with seven games missed due to injury, and the Falcons are in cap jail. If they could off-load his money and cushion it by splitting it between this year ($7.75 million) and next ($15.5 million), Atlanta’s cap charge on Jones this year goes down by a tad more than $15 million.

One final note here, to be very clear: I am not reporting the Falcons will trade Jones, or will probably trade Jones. I am saying it would not surprise me if it happened.

Three more trade names to watch:

• It won’t surprise me if the Niners make Jimmy Garoppolo more available than he’s been. In other words, instead of trying to get a first-round pick for him, maybe considering taking a two for him. I wonder if the Patriots would deal the 46th pick in the draft, or their second-rounder in 2022, for their old friend.

• I won’t be surprised if the Raiders move defensive end Carl Nassib.

• It won’t surprise me, if the Broncos do not draft a quarterback, to see Denver make a mid-round deal for Teddy Bridgewater with Carolina.

One thing I love about the new regime is they are not leaking out anything.. All of the rumors are just "sources" and could all be smokescreens. It makes for a fun night tomorrow

Fields is definitely a way better prospect than Haskins was. I could care less about the Ohio St thing. I don't think he'd get past NE if he started to slide.

I think we'll see some surprises with regard to when these QBs actually come off the board.

Per the Athletic:

With the Patriots, these trade discussions are a strong indication they’ve found conviction in at least one of those top QBs, and word is they think highly of Justin Fields – highly enough that they’ve even spoken with the Falcons about the fourth pick."

Bronco's traded for Bridgewater. Suspect that rules them out drafting a QB and it'll be a battle between him and Lock to start.

Depending on what the Panthers do I can see Bucky Brooks latest mock being very close to what happens. If the Panthers don't draft a QB (all in on Darnold) then I can easily see Jones or Fields coming to us at 19, as the Pats will take one of them, whether they trade up or not. Could make our decision harder; how do you ignore a potential franchise QB falling to you, even if he may not be your ideal choice?

If Fields is there at 19, you take him. Period. I do no think there is any realistic chance that it will happen. But if it does, taking Fields at 19 is a no brainer and the biggest steal in the last five years of the draft.

Final mock draft. Not my favorite. But I'd be pretty happy with this.

19: R1 P19 OT Christian Darrisaw - Virginia Tech
51: R2 P19 LB Jabril Cox - LSU
74: R3 P10 S Hamsah Nasirildeen - Florida State
82: R3 P18 CB Kelvin Joseph - Kentucky
124: R4 P19 LB Derrick Barnes - Purdue
163: R5 P19 WR Josh Imatorbhebhe - Illinois
246: R7 P18 TE Cary Angeline - North Carolina State
258: R7 P30 TE Nick Eubanks - Michigan

I just don’t see Darrisaw falling to 19. LT is too important a need for him to fall that far IMO.

Agree, I think 2 QBs will fall further than people think.. If Atl doesn't go QB (Rumor is they are taking Pitts) then whoever SF doesn't take will start to slide down the boards.

Agree but Carolina and Denver are still wildcards. They could still draft a rookie if they aren’t sold that their shiny new toys are their long term answer.

Think of it through this scenario: You (Panthers/Broncos) just bought a used widget (QB) from a neighbor (Jets/Panthers) because you needed one and are happy with your purchase. But then you go to the store (NFL Draft) and see a brand new widget (QB) with great reviews that has just gone on sale (fallen in the first round). Is it too tempting to pass up (draft)? Quite possibly.

I’d be cool with this draft. I think a QB and or either a top OT, LB, WR, or CB will slide to 19.

There is going to be a big time run on offensive players - quarterbacks, wide receivers, offensive linemen. Washington will have the opportunity to draft a top 5 defensive player.
