@AdamSchefter
Commanders’ Terry McLaurin is signing a 3-year extension worth up to $71 million in new money that places him amongst the NFL’s top-five highest-paid WRs, sources tell ESPN. Buddy Baker and Tony Bonagura of Exclusive Sports Group finalized deal today w/ Washington SVP Rob Rogers. The new three-year extension for Terry McLaurin includes a $28 million signing bonus, the largest given to any wide receiver, and also has 76.4 percent of the new money in deal guaranteed. The deal contractually ties the 26-year-old McLaurin to Washington through the 2025 season. |

Re: McLaurin is signing a 3-year extension worth up to $71 million
I'll admit I was beginning to get worried, missing mandatory team activities is the start of serious things, and my worry was that nothing would happen before the start of the actual TC.
Great news. And it's not that expensive IMO. He's only the 7th best paid WR in terms of APY (per OTC and spotrac). And we know today's overpay is tomorrow's bargain.

This is great news! Kid deserves every penny. Can't wait to see what he and Wentz can do. Very happy to see this.

Re: McLaurin is signing a 3-year extension worth up to $71 million
The high guarantees are notable, the highest signing bonus ever given to a WR and high guaranteed percentage speaks to how unlikely Washington thinks it is that Terry will underperform. This contract says they know what they have with him and they're comfortable he will be the man like he has been the first three years.
I also think from Terry's perspective, he clearly didn't get caught up in average annual value for show. He and his side wanted high guarantees and I don't blame them. If there's ever a guy you can depend on, it's him, and he converted that trait into the highest signing bonus ever granted to a WR. You know it's a good negotiation when both sides walk away feeling good, I bet they both did. HTTC and congrats Terry!

Re: McLaurin is signing a 3-year extension worth up to $71 million
Waiting on contract details to analyze cap impact. But knowing it's a $28M signing bonus, that piece should be $7M per season starting this year. So our available cap space should drop from $17.9M to $10.9M for this season.
I don't anticipate any other impact on this year's cap, since the deal is an extension the new salaries will kick in come 2023. But details could yield some additional nuances. For now, assume the Commanders are operating with $10.9M in cap space currently. They'd probably look at that as enough room to pick up a LB on the cheap, or save it for the season to make sure they have room for emergency injury replacements. The longer Landon Collins goes unsigned the more I think we'll pick him back up on a team-friendly deal.

His production so far in his pro career really is amazing with the qbs he's worked with. Nothing against those guys but excited to see what he can do with Wentz's tools and our other stud receivers. No excuses for the offense in 2022.

I just have a feeling McLaurin and Dotson are going to be terrorizing NFL defenses for a long time. Good luck trying man coverage on one of them. Samuel and Brown will hopefully break out also.

I'll admit I don't get the hype around resigning Collins. Yes he played better after the switch to "don't call him a linebacker" linebacker, but let's not act like he was some sort of MVP. There are better available options at LB. Ones that allow you to play your base defense. Which we can't for now. Envoyé de mon SHV48 en utilisant Tapatalk

And McLaurin and Dotson raising hell will open things up for Cole Turner, or our other TE's. It feels like we're finally putting the pieces in place. |
