#56fanatic 01-09-2006, 08:17 AM I agree that Marcus Washington had a hell of a game, but if you want to get technical, he was in the right place at the right time for the pick at the end of the game. And his strip and recovery was nice, but he almost gave it right back to the Buc's, if not for the athleticism of Sean Taylor.
I agree. Worshipping LaVar is a bit overboard, but so is acting as though he's only a troublemaker, and not a team player(not that you do, but there are plenty that do).
How about all 3 LBs had a hell of game. 33 tackles between them, two forced fumbles and two ints. that is pretty damn good from three players.
#56fanatic 01-09-2006, 08:22 AM Non-existent? Didn't he have 10 tackles, a deflection and a forced fumble and fumble recovery. And like JoeRedskin says the offsides on LaVar is a big deal. For one thing I believe it helped keep a Bucs drive alive that led to 3 points. And secondly, he was pumped up isn't that great an excuse. Who's not pumped up? If LaVar wants to be considered one of the best, one of the first things he has to work on is being consistenly solid, if not great.
Boy, you haters are hard on ole LaVar. so next time when big Joe or Marcus or whoever jumps offsides, I want to see you out here bashing them too. I dont recall any other penalties on LaVar other than the 5 yarder. Hell, he was excited to get a chance to pass rush. When he did it on a regular basis he ended up w/ 11 sacks, he was trying to prove to GW that he should be out there on 3rd down and jumped. There are alot of players in the NFL that jump offsides trying to get a jump on the snap, Strahan does it. Rice does, so are they boneheads too? Or is it just because its LaVar. Funny how you people talk about one 5 yard play and not the 10 tackles, the INT to set up the TD, or the forced fumble. That is a little harsh.
#56fanatic 01-09-2006, 08:26 AM Marcus without a doubt, WITHOUT A DOUBT, outplayed Lavar today, he is by far our best LB, Lavar made 1 big play, and that was the INT, and the pepsi machine could have made that one, a deflected pass right into his sturnum real tough, he also looked like he was running in slow motion for the end zone.
Where's the big time pass rush? Where's the big play ability? I am glad he made that INT but lets be realistic, just about anyone on this site could have made that play, he was just in the right place at the right time, not a common occurance for Lavar.
Lavar doesn't sack the QB, he doesn't even pressure him, he's supposed to be a difference maker, HE'S NOT!
Marcus turned in the play of the game on the 4th and 1 in the red zone late in the game, he forced Simms to throw an incomplete pass, that was the play that turned the momentum for us. [the dropped pass in the end zone was the biggest turning point but we didn't create that, tampa shot themselves in the foot]
I would agree, out of the three LBs Marcus is playing the best. But you have to give credit to all 3 lbs today. They all played a really good game. LaVar and Marcus had identical games pretty much, so how one could out play the other , I dont know. But if that is what they do, or LaVar and Marcus do for the rest of the post season, I'll take it every week.
#56fanatic 01-09-2006, 08:33 AM There is a big difference between hatin and telling it like it is, perhaps Lavar is part of the reason we had a different coordinator every year? I f he gave his all for the team he would listen and do as he's told, the fact is Lavar alway's wanted to do what's best for Lavar, and that's to run around the field doing whatever he feels like, while constantly being caught out of position, every coach he has had has said the same thing about him, can they all be wrong? I guess, but I doubt it.
As far a s pro-bowls are concerned, you can have them, I want wins, and championships, that's how I measure the greatness of a player, not a trip to Honolulu for a popularity contest.
Now LaVar is the reason Dan Snyder fired every coach he brought in here. Are we seriously going down that road. Dude, get real. That is rediculous.
onlydarksets 01-09-2006, 08:38 AM I am really beginning to grow tired of how much we come on the website and try to compare one of our beloved -vs- one of our beloved (i.e. Brunell vs Ramsey saga)..both LA and MW were GREAT...the D was just GREAT. Any contribution that LA or MW gives us on any play I will take it and I refuse to spend time picking apart whom is better than the other! They are BOTH Redskins players, we are ALL Redskins fans (supposedly)....like Lavar said Loyalty is a two-way street....respect him and root for him just because he is a SKINS player trying to accomplish the ultimate...the SB.
Amen - it's not a zero sum game. There is plenty of love to go around, especially for our LB corp after this game.

That statement was made in conjuncture with another post that stated Lavar went through a different coordinator every year. 1 player will not make the difference for a coaches job unless he's the QB, but lets face it our defenses have been lowsey with Lavar until Williams arrived, and we had one of the best defensive seasons ever without Lavar in the lineup last season. Washington is the one who pressures the QB, he's the one who causes the fumbles, yes both he and Lavar were benfactors of tipped ball's for INT's, but the point is Lavar was easily replaced with Lamar last season, and was basically a third string LB behind Holdman and Clemons, I don't see Lavar getting after the QB like Clemons was before he was hurt.
Do you believe any other LB on our team could provide the same production and play making ability as Washington if he went down? No way! Without Lavar we haven't missed a beat, in fact you can make a case we have been better. He's a major waste of salary cap space!
Perhaps he may be better suited to step in for Wynn at the D-end position, I wouldn't mind seeing us experiemnet with that a bit on saturday.

Who's hating? All I said was that LaVar needs to be more consistent.

First lets start with you first false statement of the defense not being anygood until GW got here. Under Marty and his brother they were top 10 I believe, under Marvin 1 year they were top 5 I believe, they did drop the following year, but also I believe the year Ray Rhoades was here they pretty damn good that year. So check the stats before saying that. Yes, Washington is a beast I dont believe I ever questioned that. As far as that goes he has had a better season. And our D did play VERY good last year without LaVar, dont think I ever questioned that either. True facts about why he isn't getting after the QB is he is not rushing the passer. He may blitz here and there, but for the most part he doesn't pass rush. A couple of the times I have seen him do it, he has been effective from the stand point of making the QB move outside the pocket and force bad throws, which all of the LBs have done, even Clemons when he was healthy. Clemons has been the 3rd down pass rusher because he was or is quicker than LaVar off the snap, no arguement there. I dont understand why people are comparing the two. They are both awesome LBs, Washington has been an awesome addition to this team. If LaVar is 100% healthy and in playing shape and Washington his usual self, we could have two of the most dominant LBs in the NFL. LaVar is alot heavier than usual, but he was all last year, during preseason, and for the most part didn't play until week 6 or so. Give the guy sometime to get healthy, FULLY HEALTHY and back down to his playing weight, and at full speed before you haters start throwing him aside. Remember it took Trotter almost a year and half to get back to full speed and playing at his normal level. And the defensive end thing has been done, he registered 11 sacks the year Marvin used him as a 3rd down pass rusher. That seems to be pretty sucessful, but I just dont know if he is that effective right now. He seems to be a step slower this year and doesnt' seem to have all his strength back in his leg. But I would imagine it would be better than nobody out there.

I'll give you Marty, we were better than average. but as for Marvin, regardless of stats we were incapable of stopping teams when we had to, and that is the true mark of a good or great defense.
As for his production under Marvin? That was as a DE, not a LB, why do you think Marvin moved him to DE? Because he knew he was a liability as a LB. I think we should try and find a way to trade him back to Marty in the offseason, he may be the one guy willing to part with a draft pick for Lavar.
BigSKINBauer 01-09-2006, 03:43 PM just so everyone knows Lavar will be on 980 today just like he is every week but this time its playoff style!! I'll post what he says.
