hey steveo, remember how good a scrub like tommy maddox looked for the steelers before he got hurt? and willie parker had 1200 yards mainly running on the edge of the field. bettis got all of the tough yards between the tackles(where games are won) who gets those yards now? if parker stays on the field the entire game now he doesnt finish the season healthy
Maddox had one good year in 2002 and he didn't even play the whole season, and he still threw 16 picks. Then he got crappier in 2003 and the steelers sucked. http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1005. Then they lost Mike Mularkey as their offensive coordinator, but the system didn't change that much because they just promoted Ken Whisenhunt from being the Tight Ends coach. Maddox's last two seasons have been total crap, even though he only played a couple games each year.

Willie Parker had a lot of carries each game, so there is no way that he ran outside every play. Nobody gets 255 carries and doesn't go through the middle. They also have Verron Haynes and Duce Staley to make up for the few yards that Bettis got. They are both big backs that got more yards per carry than bettis last year.

And Roethlisberger will probably pass it more, now that he is more experienced and he has shown that he can handle it. He will have a great season...and it's not because of the system.

bettis was a nice guy, but his production was already tailing off. they still got krieder at FB and faneca at guard etc. they'll be alright. OLines/TEs/FBs are, on average, way more important than RBs (unless you've got jim brown or barry sanders).

Brunell threw decent long balls last season, but Santana Moss had to wait for some of those passes. With all these speedy WRs we have now, I hope Brunell is able to get the ball to them on stride.

Let the WR do the work and score.

Here'sthe real question:
Is he any better than JoeTheisman, Doug Williams, or Mark Rypein?
3 avergae qb's, one awesome coach, 3 Superbowl victories.

Like I have said....I could have quarterbacked the 1992 squad with that awesome offensive line. The key is the line. Joe, Doug and Mark R had Super Bowl caliber offensive lines. Get Brunell some time to find the great recievers we have and we should do very well!!!
It should soon read like this....Joe, Doug, Mark and Mark !!!

I'd keep Brunell over all these guys:
Ben Roethlisberger
Matt Hasselbeck
Marc Bulger
Brad Johnson
Jake Delhomme
Eli Manning
Kurt Warner
Steve McNair

leaving:
Tom Brady
Trent Green
Peyton Manning
Carson Palmer (healthy)

Brunell played incredibly last season when he was healthy and his accuracy, running ability for making plays and field prowess are among the leagues best. Way smarter and field savvy than Brad Johnson and all the others.
