Can't they penalize USC by taking away scholarships and the National Championship if this is indeed pans out?

Actually I guess now that I think about it there could be some tax repercussions. Free gifts and all being untaxed = tax evasion. I guess that is one thing that could happen.

maybe he accepted a donation, who cares, if this happens in any other sport in any other league then nobody cares. his parents needed money... that doesn't mean he's a worse humam being or he is a worse professional athlete

plus when u take into account all of the practices and film sessions the players have to go to, they don't have the time or energy to also work a full time job and do well enough in school to maintain their scholarship. I think they should get some type of money, it's just a matter of coming up with an amount for the players to have money to buy what they need and not so much what they want.

Just to play devil's advocate for you and onlydarksets, isn't it a LITTLE crappy that these guys can get paid years worth of college because of playing a sport? Sure, they bring in millions of dollars to the school, but they are just playing the hand they were dealt. I don't fault them for choosing schools that want them to play football, and I don't fault them for enjoying that full ride they get all through college. I DO fault them and other people for saying that universities should share the money they make off them with others.

Medical students all over the country aren't getting money from the advances they're making in that field, so why should athletes?

Right. On the flip side of that, as a kid not even out of college, it would most definitely be hard to say "no" to that kind of cash staring you in the face.

If the allegations are true, it means he broke the rules. He broke the NCAA law. Agree, or not agree, if you don't say no, where do you draw the line. Who gets to determine who's family needs money? It's ok to violate the rules if your a good guy, but not an asshole? Who determines who's, who? Growing problem in this country, lack of enforcement of the established rules and laws. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Best wisdom I ever got from an attorney. The only people that pay in this world are those that cannot afford to

Yes the school can have those taken away but I think the NCAA would have a hard time pentalizing the other players by taking away their NC. I also heard today that the rules state that at the time of voting for Heisman the player must be in good standing. So at the time Bush was in good standing so taking away his Heisman may be tough to do. Someone else mentioned work but from what I heard today that a player is not allowed to work drun the football season. Which would make sense because trying to go to school, playing football and working would be way too much for a player to do. We have to remember that these kids get prayed upon by adults trying to make a buck off them. Alot of them come from families that cannot afford to send much money. So at age 19 these kids get money offers to help them and their families and it could be real tough to turn down the money to help your family out. Now maybe the parent or parents sould be the one to say no don't take that money we will do what needs to be done to get you through college. I would also think that its only a small % of players that have this problem because an agent is not to bribe a kid who may never even see the pros.

They do get paid alot about 50,000 per year is about what it cost to send a child to an out of state college. In state runs around 18,000 in Va.. Look at the kids who work hard in school and receive nothing in the form of a scholarship for their hard work.

Here is the difference. Normal college students can go out and get a part time job. I worked 30-40 hours a week in college being a bartender. Do you think Reggie Bushg could do this? No. Playing major college football is a full time job. What do these guys do for spending money?

While I realize there may be a small problem with......spending money. Dude gets free education. Minimum of 10's of thousands of dollars. Dude is worshipped like a rockstar everywhere he goes. He's getting paid many times over in intangibles. I'm sure you can imagine. Did he pay for his parents $750k hacienda out of his..............spending money? Was he unaware this was not Hoyle in the NCAA? Ridiculous. In RB's case, he's going to a MULTI million dollar future.
Would you trade your life to have his (at that time) for the difference of..............spending money. It's difficult to feel sorry for someone in his position. We need to stop making excuses for this type of stupid crap for superstars in all fields, or change the rules. Until then, the rules are the rules.

I don't care what he did. That 88 yard play is easily the play of the year and the somersault was the cherry on top!

He totally embarrassed Urlacher and I have a feeling it won't be the last time.
