I too am ready for campbell to come in, but not only for the future of the team, but I think he can give us a better chance to win now. Brunell for whatever reason will not throw down-field and doesn't spread the ball around well. Because of this every team we play is going to play up tight and our run game will and has already suffered. Teams will have to respect Campbell's arm and that will open up the run.

As for the idea that we shouldn't bench Brunell because the defense is the biggest problem, that may be true, but improving point production can only help get us closer to wins. Let's put it this way keeping Brunell in won't help the defense get a wink better. I don't have an answer for that.

Certainly improving point production will help, but don't expect Campbell to come in and suddenly the offense is explosive. Let's not kid ourselves, Campbell has had very little (preseason only) playing time, and if anything, I'd expect our point production to take a drop for awhile until Campbell settles down.

campbell throws great deep balls and average short/intermediate ones... might as well go back to the playbook from 91 and see what happens.

That's my point too....I'm looking forward to seeing what Campbell can do...but even if Campbell comes in and plays like Superman, it isn't going to fix our defense's problems, and I don't believe our defense's problems should be down played any.

The problem is why do we have defensive problems because it ain't Williams fault, the guy is a proven genious as a D-coordinator, could it be offseason moves by other people in the organazation who wanted AA instead of Clark as B Mitch stated, or perhaps instead of continually throwing away draft picks try drafting depth not to mention maybe some starters, we also have plenty of injuries, imagine if the offense just 1 time stepped up and picked up and carried the defense for a change, like the defense has done for the last 2 years for our offense. How about since we know our defense is struggling our offense controls the ball and keeps them off the field, as far as I can tell theres no injuries on offense and superstars at every position, yea our defense has it's problems right now but they will improve, can we say the same for our offense? I think not! if any facet of our team has earned respect and should be cut some slack it's our defense. But the fact is they look far worse because our offense is as pathetic as it gets so if thier not shuting teams out they have failed.

One of the things Gbbs said when asked about the offseason changes to the decision making structure, especially about Al Saunders:
"You can't go back in life... we put a lot of thought into that... sometimes in life you don't get what you want... but to me, you can't go back. I think those decisions were made the right way; they were made for the right reasons..."
He does say around this part that he thinks Al can "help" the team, but it sure seems vague and not like a vote of confidence to me.

Doesn't it mean something very significant that he didn't say it was the right decision to have Saunders make the play calls... only that the decision was made the right WAY, and for the right REASONS; but he didn't say it was RIGHT. Big difference!!
Thoughts?

That's the most viciously I have ever heard Gibbs assess anyone! Not good....

Mark didn't play a bad game in my opinion. But as always, benching the quarterback helps the defense play better. Yeah...that makes sense.

There are lots of variations of this argument floating around. I guess the standard for benching a qb is that he has to be the worst component on the team. If you can point out another area that is worse than him, defense, punting, whatever, somehow you jump to the conclusion that he should still play.

Look, if we could bench some of those guys on defense we would, but we don't have any depth there, that's the problem. With the qb situation we at least can try a new course.

How many times has a young qb come in and rallied a talented team that was floundering. When Brady got the call in 02 the Patriots were 0-2, having been blown out their first two games by considerable margins. They ended up winning the superbowl. Big Ben took a 1-1 Steelers team to 15 straight wins. Even if that doesn't happen with Campbell, we can't possibly be any worse...

I really didn't get that from his press confrence but I may not have picked up on it either, but all I can say is if Gibbs is knocking Saunders after the way the offense has performed over the last 2 years I have to laugh, he must think it's still 91' We barely made the playoffs and the fact that we did had nothing to do with our offense it was our defense that kept us in games and then carried us into the playoffs and into the second round.

Gibbs just can't admit his rolex is fake.

We finished the season last year scoring 24, 17, 35, 35, and 31 points. We had problems on offense, sure, but I think Santana Moss and Clinton Portis played at least a small role our run to the playoffs.

you can't totally discount the offense last year. defense won the eagles game and the TB playoff game, but the stomping on the giants and dallas (very nice memories) was the peak of our offense.

It was a well documented fact that Williams wanted Arch, and in addition that Williams has a huge say in the defensive personnel. You can't pin that particular one on Gibbs.

The problem with Arch is he's not skilled to sit back in cover 2 and I don't believe that was the original plan for him. The awful corner play has resulted in our switch to the cover 2 much of the time. I still believe Arch can turn it around.
