This country has been in a moral tailspin for some time. IMO, it appears to be accelerating. And yes, act like an adult, get treated like one.

I don't think we are necessarily in a moral tailspin. Rather, I think old problems are being addressed (e.g., racism, sexism, etc) and new ones are being created.

It seems to me that the more we hear and see the Wrong things being done, the more Right and acceptable they become. We as a society look to Hollywood and media to define who we are.

I sort of feel like you might be giving human beings who lived in the past too much credit here because it seems like we've been ****ed up in the head for most of our history. The whole filming homeless people fighting as selling it as entertainment seems like a modern version of the Roman Colosseum, and acts like randomly beating up the homeless were depicted in the book/movie A Clockwork Orange in the 60's and they've probably been happening for longer than that. I don't think this kind of brutality and aggression is unique to this country.

Sorry, the sociology major in me is breaking out.

We as a society look to Hollywood and media to define who we are. That's true to an extent, but remember that violent entertainment has been around for a lot longer than this country/society. Likewise, we look to the media to define ourselves but the media was designed by us first.

Its just hard to believe that a person could do this to another person no matter who or what they are. Its a sad story but I'm surprised its not more than 122 attacks recorded per year when we have cities here in the USA that per 1,000 people have a higher murder rate than in Iraq. No, I'm not making this political but only pointing out that we have a problem in this country that is mainly ignored. I also think if you look at the break down of the American family over the years and compared it juvenile crime rate we could see how it has impacted or kids.

People in society that didn't or don't receive much positive influence from their parents look to Hollywood and the media to define who they are. Tell mom and dad to stop trying to keep up with the Jones and spend some more time together and you'll a serious drop in criminal behavior among juveniles.
