firstdown 02-20-2007, 04:50 PM It seems to me that the more we hear and see the Wrong things being done, the more Right and acceptable they become. We as a society look to Hollywood and media to define who we are.
If we look to Hollywood as a society then every week we would having an award banquet so we would feel good about our self and the good we do. You think the money they make would be award enough.
724Skinsfan 02-20-2007, 04:55 PM Tell mom and dad to get married before having children, to be old enough to have children, have a job before having children etc..... maybe we have just made it to easy to say ops! I made a mistake.
Not to nitpick because we're on the same page but Andy Reid is married, plenty old enough and makes a ton of money. His kids didn't seem to benefit much from these factors.
Gmanc711 02-20-2007, 05:37 PM It's pretty crazy that kids are "evil" enough to kill homeless people and dumb enough to film these kinds of attacks. If you ask me, they deserved to be tried as adults and sentenced to life in prison.
Teen 'sport killings' of homeless on the rise - CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/19/homeless.attacks/index.html)
Honestly, if anyone murders someone in cold blood at any age where they can determine right from wrong (Ie; older than 9), I think they should be tried as adults and sent to prison for life. I mean seriously, these kids can burn in hell.

I agree, but I can't say that I've followed that advice (and I'm sure a lot of people haven't). How many guys can say they lost their virginity when they were married, old enough to have kids, and had a job that could support a family? Not many.
Daseal 02-21-2007, 02:12 AM That article really upset me when I read it earlier today. I hate that so many people see the homeless as somehow less than human. This sort of thing should (and probably is) be prosecuted as a hate crime because that's exactly what it is.
These kids are sick mother****ers that think they can get away with this sort of thing because the homeless can be pretty defenseless. My only hope is that they get put in an adult prison so they can learn what it feels like to be pissed on by society like the people that they attacked.
And that's my rant for now.
While I agree with you, AMD. The problem is, in many peoples eyes, especially law enforcement, homeless people are the best targets. A lot of killers kill the homeless and hookers. Why? No families, no one missing them, no one pressuring the cops to find their killer. They're easy targets because there's no one out there to support them after that.
That said. I can't think of a much worse place to be homeless than Milwaukee. Jesus. Must be terrible in the winter.
As far as the moral degradation of society, I think we're simplifying things too much. The human mind has been perverse since we've been around. As mentioned earlier: the Romans feeding prisoners to the lions, or any of the countless atrocities committed in multiple God's names.
You can say sure, society is moving along and getting worse and worse. But what about the filth spewed just 50 years ago. Rock and roll causes incest? I mean come on! That's ridiculous. This same artist was the Super Bowl act this year.
While parents being around, etc means a lot. I think people that blame video games, music, or movies on the state of society need to get a real check. I've never met anyone who came out of a violent movie and then went to buy a gun. It just doesn't work like that, as a society we are evolving. You can decide if you like it or not. I'm all for it.
hooskins 02-21-2007, 03:00 AM I think a key thing that is being forgotten in this discussion but mentioned in the links is the videos "BUMFIGHTS". I have seen two of the videos online and while some of it is humorous quite a bit of it is sad. There is one scene where a bum is pretending like his home is on MTV cribs and he is showing his pimped out shopping cart and all that. I thought it was a bit humorous but also wrong.
I had no problem with that. But one scene they paid a bum less than 50 dollars to rip one of his teeth out. They make bums fight with other bums and steal stuff. I am sure a fair amount of it is staged, but I don't think all of it is.
One of the worst things they do it like pretend they are cops and drive up to bums arrest them make them do stupid things, and then run off.
It is sick they are doing this just for money and thrills. At the same time at least the ugly head of homelessness is exposed in the public for discussion. I swear it felt like America turned away from it for quite some time.
I sort of feel like you might be giving human beings who lived in the past too much credit here because it seems like we've been ****ed up in the head for most of our history. The whole filming homeless people fighting as selling it as entertainment seems like a modern version of the Roman Colosseum, and acts like randomly beating up the homeless were depicted in the book/movie A Clockwork Orange in the 60's and they've probably been happening for longer than that. I don't think this kind of brutality and aggression is unique to this country.
Sorry, the sociology major in me is breaking out.
Ok, the world is morally F... up. Not really sure what your getting at there?
That's true to an extent, but remember that violent entertainment has been around for a lot longer than this country/society. Likewise, we look to the media to define ourselves but the media was designed by us first.
I think that hollywood is more of a measure of where we are as a country. Where are interestes are. On about the third day of the Anna Nicole "death coverage", I heard some stats stating the news organizations in general were running about 60% Anna Nicole, and 40 % the rest of the world. I find that pretty shocking.
There are many challenges that face us as a country, but we as a country choose to rivet ourselves to affairs of a deceased bimbo, hillbilly ho' (albeit, with a great rack) who croaked on a methodone bender.
We routinely hear about the latest "who shot 10 kids" at a school, or the current Mcdonalds drive by with passing boredom, yet you cannot turn on the tv and not be bombarded by endless hours with the idiot twins, Joan and Melissa, touting the latest from the current red carpet. I think that is a problem
That Guy 02-21-2007, 10:39 AM pretty sad. i hope they delay the trial (keeping them in prison) until they're each 18 so they can be tried as adults.

I don't think it matters how old they are when they're tried; it's all about how old they were when they committed the crime. That's why the John Malvo kid in the sniper case didn't get the death penalty even though he was older than 18 when he was actually convicted.
That being said, I think these kids can still be tried as adults, but they wouldn't be eligible for capital punishment even if the court wanted that to be the case.
