GTripp0012 02-21-2007, 09:59 PM As odd as it may sound, I think our core D players are not THAT bad. We need one more LB, a good DT, S and CB. Maybe Rocky can become that good LB leaving the DT for the draft and FA for either the S or CB. Just that would significantly help our D.Well, our D Line is horrible. The arguement could be made that Carter has a future and Griffin has had a past, but you'd be hard pressed to milk that into a good line.
In the back seven, I agree that our personell needs just a bit of tweaking. With the signings of Fletcher and Clemons (if possible) we would be very strong and deep in both the secondary and the linebackers.
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 02-21-2007, 10:02 PM If we are looking to get a guy cheap, Tampa Bay DE Dewayne White is a bulky DE in the mold of a Wynn, but he's 26 and would come on the cheap (allowing us to cut either Daniels or Wynn for cap relief).
I don't know if White would come cheap. I like the guy, but I think other teams do too (pure speculation).
dmek25 02-21-2007, 10:06 PM simeion rice is after one thing, lots of money. and how old is kearney? lets use the draft to fill that hole
skinsfan69 02-21-2007, 10:12 PM Patrick Kerney has decided to opt out of his contract making him an unresticted free agent would he fit in the redskins system he would be one of those non-high profile players that make a defense better and he wouldn't be really expensive and he could make the redskins trading their number 6 overall pick that much easier
He's 30 years old coming off a pretty serious injury. I know he's a good pass rusher but I wouldn't touch this guy. The risk outweighs the reward.

The D Line is going to be a multi year rebuilding project. Kerney probably doesn't fit into those plans, even if he is more talented than Daniels.
I wish people would realize this. It's going to take time not only to rebuild the line, but the whole defense. We need DT, DE, MLB, FS, and a corner.

Or just a SS who can play. Sean Taylor is a fine free safety. They just need someone who can actually let him play it. *cough* Ryan Clark *cough*
EARTHQUAKE2689 02-21-2007, 10:18 PM i miss ryan clark he was the perfect compliment to sean taylor
jdlea 02-21-2007, 10:21 PM Back to the Kerney issue, when he said he was going to opt out, I thought, "Great, he's up there in age a few mil a year and put a Skins uniform on him." However, he almost immidiately added that he had no desire to leave Atlanta and would probably take a little less money to stay. However, he seemed like he wants a payday, not necessarily a huge one, but he wants to get paid.
EARTHQUAKE2689 02-21-2007, 10:28 PM Holy Christ Earthquake, you're on pace to set the record for starting more threads in one week than anyone in the history of thewarpath. I'm not trying to dampen your enthusiasm, but you might want to think if a topic deserves its own thread.
oh come on i only started 7 which i realize is a bit too too too much so i will tone it down
GTripp0012 02-21-2007, 10:34 PM simeion rice is after one thing, lots of money. and how old is kearney? lets use the draft to fill that holeIf the Andre Carter thing has taught us one thing it's that teams that ignore the ability of a DE to defend against the run in player eval will get gashed with it.
I still think that this Carter thing can work. But we have to be very careful to build the line around him adding some big guys with pass rushing ability in the middle, but without compromising our ability to stuff the run any further. This means no Simeon Rice's, no Dwight Freeney's, no guys who charge hard upfield and takes themselves out of running plays. We already have one guy who does that.
In my opinion, both Jamaal Anderson and Gaines Adams suffer from this kind of problem. They are both a little light in the ass, and having them and Carter on the field at the same time would be a nightmare. I'm would view either of them as a replacement for Carter not a bookend.
If we gave up on Archuleta, Lloyd, AND Carter in one offseason, the financial implications would be rediculous.
I want Branch first and foremost, and my second choice would be Okoye.
