Nice post. But I WANT MY NAME BACK!!! I say sign Smoot to a cap-friendly, short term deal. Sign Robaire Smith and Fletch as well. Trade the #6 and a conditional 2008 to Houston for the #8 and #39. Draft DE Anderson/Adams (one of them should be there) and CB Houston/Wilson. And keep Dockery, but at most give him a $12 million signing bonus and that's being generous

oh and Russ Grimm for the Hall of Fame ;)

$12 mil for Derrick Freaking Dockery? I can't believe I typed that. I want Dock, but is he really worth $12 mil to anyone else? I want him back, but since when has any team really outbid us for a player? Antonio Pierce and Smoot were both lowballed by us, spin it how you want but those guys should have never left Redskins Park.

I want Redskins One grounded, let some other team set the market. You don't ever see anyone signed to cap-friendly deals on the first day of free agency. But it's the summer Super Bowl so its time for the Skins to shine! I'm beginning to hate free agency...

Financially can we do it you think? That's one thing I didn't look that deep into

I think the signing of Smoot, Smith, Fletch and Dock would be some serious cash and need several things.

First a restructure on Springs is a must. Then we probably lose Wynn and/or Daniels.

I'd love to hold onto Wynn because of his versatility but his cap num is way too high. Daniels would become expendable if we brought in a young guy like Adams or Anderson, especially if we kept Wynn.

He's worth that in this market. I'd take Wade at a lower cost really if it went beyond 12 mil.

12 mil...jesus.

1500 posts. Congrats. So if he does come back and takes back the #21 and Taylor goes back to #36, are you changing your name to Grim36Reaper?

I have a feeling Smoot will take #22 and tell everyone that he's one better than when he left. Reporters in the room will laugh even though they're all in agreement that his joke makes no sense.

Thank you there were some days where I wondered if I would ever make it this far <tearing up>.

As far as the Grim36Reaper, probably, but I am a little torn on this. I have a 70th anniversary Smoot Jersey which I would feel comfortable wearing weather he is #21 or not. I have a custom #21 jersey with "GRIMREAPER" on the back and I have an authentic #36 Taylor jersey.

As long as Taylor wears either 21 or 36 I am covered. If he changes his number again, I give up.

Here is another article from the Times. I would say the Post and Times are reading the Warpath because I don't see anything that hasn't been covered here...

Frankly, I'd like to see Redskin 1 go to Buffalo, and Smoot to be waiting at the airport in DC when it returns.

Love the Smoot. Love him. But he did nothing to raise his profile professionally in Minnesota, and plenty to lower it personally (nautically speaking, that is). He should be looking for a job, a job doesn't need to look for him.

What are your thoughts on Rob Morris as a stop gap? I believe he is a free agent, and what about Mike Doss too?

Morris,, very underwhelming. His numbers are not so good, plus factoring in how poorly their defense played for the majority of the season, I'd be leery. Tackling seemed to be a major problem, and a problem we had here last year as well. No sense continuing the trend.

Doss has the same problem, and isn't even a linebacker in Indy. I don't mind our safeties, especially with Priouleau due back (oh man, i think I spelled that right!). i think a lot of Archulettas woes stemmed from the sudden injury to Prioleau and forced him into situations where he is not at his best.
I think we need a true MLB, and if we can't get one who is effective, then it really puts the pressure on to find a nice big gap filling, double team commanding DT in the draft... or elsewhere. Get that center off of our MLB, get that guard off of our MLB, and things open up a bit.
