A recall would just invite lawsuits (you owe be a new tv!). I work for an electronics (audio) manufacturing company. When something goes wrong, which is very rare, we're quick to fix it but we don't issue recalls. Maybe if we knew something was potential harmful to a person, like electrical shock or whatever but that has never happened.
well, the kind of current to ruin a tv through an hdmi cable would probably be considered somewhat unsafe to leave as exposed contacts...
I've never heard of an AV input problem with the 360.
Here's the problem with that. They haven't been around long enough for that to have been empirically tested. That's a best guess from the engineers.
Right, but it's pretty much a myth now that they burn out in just a couple of years.
My Dad has a Panasonic plasma that he's had for 4-5 years now and it still looks just as good as mine that I got last fall.
BDBohnzie 03-09-2007, 11:13 AM The first generation Plasmas were notorious for burn outs, but they've worked on it to the point where it's not really a concern any more.
I don't see how the 360 could burn out the inputs...
tuna - my Dad just bought the 20 inch Vizio, and the picture is pretty nice. I'm thinking about the 46 inch LCD for my basement once it's time to upgrade the big TV. From what I understand, Sony makes the parts used in the Vizio...
mredskins 03-09-2007, 01:47 PM I would be more worried about getting a VIZIO. they have a failing grade with the BBB. My subway by my work had one and it broke in about a month. Buyer beware!

I have to read about Costco and if they have any special return policies, because that is the only way I would buy one. I bought most of my Pressure Washing supplies from them when I was a business, and when I had a pump go bad (always a 300 dollar expense for a cleaning contractor) I would just take it back to them and they would replace it or replace the whole machine... all I had to do was keep the reciept.
I have to find out if its the same with the Vizio, because I've heard a few bad reviews about them dying for no reason... and fan issues...
Do you guys know of any other great deals on plasmas? I'm not copletely opposed to LCDs but I tend to like the brilliant colors of plasmas better...

My opinion as far as plasmas is go with the trusted brands such as Panasonic. You'll spend a bit more, but the quality and reliability is really worth it.
What sort of lighting do you have in the room you're going to be putting this TV? LCDs are supposed to be better for well lit rooms, while plasmas tend to do better in dimmer rooms. With plasmas there is some glare off the glass, so the darker the room the better.
I did a lot of research before buying mine, I can post the links later.
That Guy 03-09-2007, 04:48 PM plasmas generally look much better (but there are crappy plasmas and great LCDs too). the whole LCD pixelation/motion blur thing isn't really an issue like it was 4-5 years ago.
fatwallet.com and techbargains.com will list any really good deals on plasma TVs, costco and compusa/bestbuy/circuit city sometimes have good rebate deals as well.
beware of tigerdirect (or any online dealer including newegg.com) for TVs though, a lot of times they DO NOT accept returns AT ALL of TVs over X" (24-27 or so), and, especially on the cheap brands, if you have a problem (like green cast etc), the manufacturer might decide that they're not going to fix it. besides the fact that the shipping to return or RMA a plasma TV would be insane in the first place.

I second that.
I bought mine at Circuit City and got free delivery and setup. Not sure if that was a special deal or what they usually offer, but either way it's something to look for.
