Santana vs. Randy

I don't know what games u have been watching but we could not be on the same level as NE even if they had Santana Moss and we had Randy. Brady and Peyton are in a league of their own and they will not let their teams be mediocre. I don't think NE is unbeatable (in fact we have a chance to beat them IMO) but they have something that the skins won't have for awhile. Experience, specifically big game experience. They know how to close out games and they have that killer instinct. They were losing to Dallas in the 3rd quarter on the road. Could you imagine how the Redskins would have responded in that same situation? We might have been able to pull one out but I am DAMN sure that we wouldn't have put it into 6th gear and won the game by 21 points like they did. Sorry man I love the skins and am not a big fan of the Pats at all, but lets not get carried away.


I couldnt agree more. There is no way we are one WR away from being in their class...

Just to be fair, I'm sure people were judging results soley on the previous three seasons, not the entire body of work.

No one here is disputing whether or not Santana has had a better career than Randy.

I see your point but Oak had the worst QB situation in the NFL. I was not going to judge R. Moss with Walter and Brooks throwing him the ball behind a terrible o-line. Plus they had some guy who was running a bed and breakfast who hadn't coached since 91 running the offense. No WR would have done well on that team.

R. Moss is not a leader. I don't think he does well in a situation where he has to carry the team like he was asked to do in Oak. But when he has solid vets and supporting cast around him he is going to thrive and right now he is in a perfect situation.

Our Moss needs to bounce back and put up 1000+ to be in the conversation for best WRs in the league again. Yes he was nicked up last year and playing with a less than desirable QB situation, but still, 2005 was a long time ago.

nailed it. we need to stop thinking about what he did and start focusing on what he's doing. I love moss, but right now, he's dropping balls, not scoring, and not helping prolong drives. Considering him an elite receiver is self deception- he's got a lot to prove.

There was a little debate going on about this in the Brady's Bedtime Buddies thread. I just want to bring this out in the open for everyone to discuss. Right now, which Moss would you rather have on the team, Santanna or Randy. I'm sayin Santanna.

1) Randy Moss is getting old, while Santanna is in the prime of his career.

2) Randy Moss is afraid to get hit, while Santanna constantly goes over the middle and takes shots. I have seen Randy Moss stop running routes before because he knew he was going to get hit. If you doubt me, watch the 2001 NFC Championship game when the Giants spanked Minnesota. He wouldn't even sacrifice his body in a big game.

3) Randy takes plays off, Sanatanna goes hard the entire game.

4) Randy has a huge ego and an attitude problem while Santanna just wants to win.

5) Randy does not have the YAC ability that Santanna has. While Randy may be a better deep ball threat, Santanna is no slouch there either. Brunell to Moss, TD! Brunell to Moss, TD! Does anyone remember that game?

While in the prime of his career Randy may have be better than Santanna, there is no way I'd rather have him on the Skins than Santanna right now.

Right now, yes Moss is older than Santana, and that may be the only logical reasoning not to have him over Santana. To say he's afraid to get hit, there are 100 of receivers that are gun shy going across the middle. That comes with the territory. Plus, Moss isn't an across the middle guy. His is a fly route, deep post, middle seam guy. He has never been an across the middle of the field receiver, that to me would not be using him to the best of his ability. He is big, tall and extremely fast. He was never known as a great route runner, but what he lacks in that area he makes up in the ability to go and get the ball better than just about any one in the NFL.

Randy may have taken plays off - to think he is the only one that does that is crazy. Santna plays hard no doubt - so maybe that is one area Santana may have an edge, but not by much.

Randy wants to win as well. He was in a bad situation in Oakland and wasn't happy. Players that are not happy, just dont produce. Prime example is Trotter. he wasn't happy here, played like crap but was a multiple probowler in philly. Smoot is another one. Santana was never that happy in NY and lets face it, he didn't light it up there either. He has had only 1 stellar year since joining washington. Randy has had several impactful years. Look what he is doing now, no one can cover the dude.

YAC - goes back to him not being an across the middle receiver. the majority of his routes are down field, or side line routes. The guy can flat out fly. he ran the 40 in 4.2 to 4.3 range in the offseason. If he had plays designed for YAC I am sure he would excel at it.

As much as i love Santana, he is not in the same league as Randy. Randy will more than likely go the hall when his career is over. Joining NE is definately going to help his numbers. And quite frankly if I had my choice I would take Randy right now over Santana. (that is if we get the happy, healthy Randy NE has gotten this year) Randy is was 31-32, he has 4 or 5 more years as a productive receiver. I would definately take him.

There's only one receiver in the entire NFL that I would take over S. Moss; Steve Smith. And even then I feel like I'm splitting hairs.


splitting hairs?? Steve Smith, as much as i dislike the guy, is one of if not the biggest playmaking WR in the NFL. Can you seriously say that about Santana right now? He has 1 good year here. The other two have been very iffy.

Overall, Randy Moss has the better looking career numbers, but if I had to choose one to be on the team right now, it'd definitely be Santana. If Randy Moss was on the team last season, dealing with the lack of a passing attack, he would have been all over Sportscenter bitching about how the team is poorly coached, just like he did with the Raiders.

And while I don't think Santana has quite the speed or hops that R. Moss has, his ability to adjust to the ball is better than probably any receiver in the league. That's a much bigger asset to a young quarterback than bitchy receiver that gives up on routes whenever he feels like it.


had Randy been on the team last year, the passing game may not have been so crappy.

This is based on nothing but a gut feeling, but I think Santana is going to use his shitty performance thus far as motivation and will start looking super human again.

Santana Moss is not even close to Randy Moss. Randy Moss catches everything near him and scores TDs. Santana's not quite there yet.

here are my thoughts:

at first i sort of felt SM was maybe just outside the top 15. the more i read though, i do feel that he is maybe at the bottom of the top 10, but definitely in the top 15. however, he does need to prove something this year. he's had a year with JC who's got a great arm and they need to let the chemistry build, blah blah blah...

randy moss is the better WR overall however just based on numbers but who really cares? i like both mosses, but clearly ours better.
