my family and i saw the movie last night, it's very good. imo, it's better than GoF and tied with PoA as the best movie so far.

Man, I don't get it...what's up with all the Harry Potter hype? If you didn't know better you'd think it's historical in depth and breath.

Have you ever read any of the books?

Have you ever read any of the books?

I read the first chapter of the first book after my sister brought it home all excited. Needless to say that was first and last time I turned a Harry Potter page.

Those kind of books aren't my kind of books. Never read the Lord of the Rings books either. I like books with humor, depth and dry in nature.

I like non-fiction books myself. History books in particular.

I must confess I have yet to read Harry Potter (keep meaning to though), but you're the first person who I've ever heard say they started reading the book and didn't like it. Everyone else raves about it.

I saw the first HP movie and thought it was fun, but nothing great. I really enjoyed Prisoner of Azkaban though. And, from what I understand, the movies don't do the books justice

I don't think I read enough of the book to form a negative opinion. You know what I mean? I simply lost interest and cut my losses. It's just that it didn't suck me in like people seem to gotten sucked in. If you ask me I blame the whole Potter fiasco on Oprah. I particularly find adults camping out to get their hands on the books, not for their kids but for themselves, frightening.

Perhaps people who have read the books can enlighten me...WTF is so unique about it? New? Interesting?

It's actually fashionable and cool to find the movie breathtaking and a masterpiece. I think I'm gonna start a social experiment and start trashing the books and the movies just to see how they react. You know, just whale on it during happy hour tomorrow :)

I like just about anything with Gary Oldman. Really underrated actor.

I've only read the first book because it's a real fast read (<--pronounced "reed"). It only took me about two or three hours (flight from JFK to Atlanta). I really like the movies, though. Good escapism and any book that gets kids and even adults to enjoy reading is okay in my book.

thats why i don't read the books. my wife is always comparing the movie to the book and the end result is always the same, she says the movie was good but didn't totally follow the book.
i watch the movies only,so without having to compare them to the books, the movies are really good and imo, they keep getting better.

She has great imagination and her style very readable for all ages and intellects without being dopey. She's far superior to a lot of big selling "adult" authors like Dan Brown or John Grisham or Tom Clancy. Dan Brown is just terrible.

You want to read some good fiction try John LeCarre or Fredrick Forsythe. I like Tom Wolfe as well, although I would get a lot of disagreement from some quarters there. Philip Roth is good. "Portnoy's Complaint" is some top notch filth. "London Fields" by Martin Amis is fantastic.

Then you've got Saul Bellow in a class by himself. "THe Adventures of Auggie March" is the greatest American novel, IMHO.

I also like Steinbeck. "Cannery Row" is a must read.
