70Chip 11-07-2007, 05:29 PM I'd rather have Williams than Cowher any day. Cowher disqualified himself in that Dallas Super Bowl when he kept throwing with O'Donell even though any fool could see that Dallas couldn't stop the inside run. Rodney Hampton ran all over them in Texas Stadium that year and the Steelers had that big bruiser that got caught with the eye medicine in his car. They should have beaten Dallas that day. Cowher blew it and my Sunday was ruined.
SUNRA 11-07-2007, 06:49 PM Midseason is an appropiate time to weigh in on the progress or decline of this team, coach and record. The team as a whole seems to lack a cohesive bond where the offense compliments the defense and establishes some decent drives to give the defense a chance to rest. I'm tired of watching the offense lose its way after a half. The coaching staff headed by Gibbs has no clue how to get the best out of the players they have at their disposal. Where is McCardell, Caldwell, and Yoder? No reason to mention the highest paid benchwarmer other than Brunell. ( Lloyd ) There is a real need for change in the philosophy of how the team's identity should be viewed. That New England game revealed to me a team that had no spine, no balls and no heart. They just took an ass-whipping like gentleman. That 's not the Gibbs lead team I grew up watching, but that's where this team is and its fixable but at what cost to the teams future ? I know it's time for a change because a team like this that makes it to the playoffs will be eliminated in the first round.

Whatever happened to this (http://www.redskinswarpath.com/368977-post33.html)?
More importantly though, shouldn't this rant of yours be in the Midseason Grades thread?
SUNRA 11-07-2007, 07:11 PM Smootsmack I find it comical that you call my assessment whether it is suitable for this thread or not a rant. If you think this isn't the right place to discuss this, fine. But save the sarcastic shit about what I said in another thread.

1. Get a sense of humor
2. I'll be sure not to call any of your posts "rants" anymore. But as I said, see above
3. You can post your thoughts about the midseason here if you want. It just seemed like it would make more sense in the thread that actually discusses where we are at the midseason point
4. Whatever happened to that site you were going to go start a few years back. Remember, when you had enough of us?
Marvin Lewis isn't exactly setting the world on fire in Cincinnati though. Some say it's because of the "character issues" he has on his team. But it's not likely he was sitting idly by without any input when these selections were made.
True, I think he's taken too many chances on questionable character guys and it's hurt their locker room. And what the heck is up with their total collapse this year?
redskinsfanatic 11-08-2007, 09:42 AM i hate that squareheaded sack of shit!he,marinio, and sharpe should all be marooned on ego island together!
Beemnseven 11-08-2007, 12:42 PM I think when people cite Lloyd, Duckett, Brunell, Patten, Wright, Harris as some examples of why he sucks then it's perfectly ok to cite Moss, Portis, Taylor, Cooley, Fletcher, Suisham (gotta throw 5 Kicks some love) as examples of success.
Cheers to that.
People love to focus on the negatives, but throw a positive out there and it's immediately dismissed it seems.
It works both ways, you can't just blame, blame, blame and not toss out some praise when it's warranted.
I think it's fair to say that the negatives personnel moves outweigh the positives. Just look at the losing record so far that pretty much answers it.
I'll give him Cooley (though he was a 2 for 1), Fletcher, Suisham, some others.
But the bad ones really take him down quite a bit. Arch, TJ Duckett, Brandon Lloyd... those really hurt.
Beemnseven 11-08-2007, 12:46 PM Why is a young first time hire the answer?
Tomlin stepped into a great situation in Pittsburgh and that undoubtedy has been a big reason for his success. How are things working out for Kiffin in Oakland? How about Mangini sitting at 1-8 in NY?
Just wondering why you feel that unless we hire a young guy then things are doomed.
I think the theory is that going out and hiring a coach who has nothing to prove versus hiring someone who is hungry and is eager to prove himself can make a big difference. When Gibbs was first hired by Beathard/JKC, he was the latter.
Problem is, Snyder doesn't have the patience for young guys. He's always preferred the people who have previously given good results.
BleedBurgundy 11-08-2007, 01:23 PM Maybe this has been said in the previous 6 pages of this thread but why would we want to trade a conservative, run oriented coach for another conservative, run oriented coach? If you are unhappy with the state of the team then you're probably a member of the "bombs away" club here on the warpath. I'm not sure what you expect of a Bill Cowher coached team that you're not already seeing? I think that all we would get out of hiring coach Cowher would be a 1-2 year setback while he puts his system, personnel, players in.
All of that said, if Gibbs decides to retire and Cowher is available I would think he would be an excellent choice because of the similarities of their coaching styles. It would most likely make for as seamless of a transition as possible.
