Latest On The Skins Stadium Moving Back To DC???coggs 12-01-2007, 09:04 PM The Super Bowl is not about football fans, it is about the corporate sponsors who pay lots of money throughout the year to have their names plastered over everything. coggs 12-01-2007, 09:06 PM The site of RFK is easily assessable for all Skins fans Really? Two summers ago I was in DC for an afternoon, fiancee and I took a detour to see the sites after being in Quantico. We were going to go to a Nationals game, but gave up after driving around for about 45 minutes looking for the stadium. We didnt have directions, was a last minute decision, just a sign for the stadium, followed it, but then no more signs, and no stadium. atomicnixon 12-01-2007, 10:52 PM I myself never had the privilege of attending a Redskins game at RFK. I have seen old films of how the stadium would shake. But videos just don't do justice to it, I really wish I could have been there. Sadly I was born a few years too late. As for the Skins moving back, I don't think it's going to happen. At least not for the next 5-10 years. I'm sure Danny payed a lot to get that stadium built and I don't think he's just going to give it up after 10 years. Not to be an ass, but Mr. Cooke built it. htownskinfan 12-02-2007, 12:25 AM I would have to say if I died tommorrow one of my biggest regrets would be not seeing the skins at RFK,the only time I've ever been there was to see "The Who" on their supposed last tour in 89 SouperMeister 12-02-2007, 01:16 AM I would have to say if I died tommorrow one of my biggest regrets would be not seeing the skins at RFK,the only time I've ever been there was to see "The Who" on their supposed last tour in 89I attended that concert too! My wife was 6 months pregnant with our first child - I joke with my daughter that The Who was her first concert ;-) Bill B 12-02-2007, 07:07 AM I've heard rumors that it would be a retractable roof that would allow the field to be natural grass. Soupmeister - they could have a field like the Arizona Cardinals that literally rolls in under the stadium from the outside, although I think Synder would do a retractable roof so he could open up the stadium on nice days. If a new stadium is built you can gurantee it will be a dome and most likely a retractable roof - having the Superbowl here is just too big a draw not to do it. One other thing though - I would hope that since Jerry Jones is putting 60 yard HDTV's in the new Dallas stadium that the Skins would try to do the same thing - the reply screens at Fed Ex are not too good. As far as getting out of Fed Ex - I beleive the Skins have 20 years left on the bonds that were issued by Maryland but as many have said you could sell the land at Fed Ex for development (retail and office and not residential due to housing issues) and probably have more than enough to pay off the State of Maryland. Interestingly enough Synder may be waiting becuase I would bet that as the years go by the penalties to leave Fed Ex will go down - so maybe in 10 years the Skins will move back? One other point to consider is if they moved back to the old RFK site you can be sure that Synder will have to more than make up for all the lost parking revenue he currently gets at Fed Ex - either through higher ticket prices or a bigger stadium. I don't know how many parking spaces there are at Fed Ex that he gets money from but it is a lot. I know Orange Parking tickets go for around $125 per ticket to give you an idea of how much is made on parking. Skinsfan1967 12-02-2007, 07:58 AM I don't think that loud will be a problem this afternoon. Let's make sure Sean hears every voice. The New Giants stadium (with the Jets) is at 1.5 Bill right now .............in 10 years for Snyder to move it will be 3 Bill and as of now he does'nt have it. biggirl 12-02-2007, 03:11 PM JKC wanted to tear down RFK, but there was such an uproar about it, the idea was scrapped. Then, the secret deal fell apart to build a stadium at Potomac Yard. Remember that? Then, with no other options it seems, he decided to build on the site of the current FedEx field. In freaking landover! I HATE that place. It's not close to anything! There was nothing like redskins games at RFK. They spent millions refurbishing it for the 2 years the Nationals have been playing...I hate to see them tear it down...but I guess it does make sense to build a retractable roofed stadium, if you are going to build a stadium at all. I would love to see 1 more game at RFK. Now that would be cool. |
