That Guy 08-07-2004, 10:55 PM bringing in a new player that would be that far behind already would be a bit hard... williams has adapted his defense already, and having a new pass rusher means changing the defense for everyone, otherwise he wouldn't be as useful... either way, i highly doubt it'll happen.

Wow - we are only a WEEK into training camp. And we still have FIVE preseason games to play. Ramsey missed much more as an NFL rookie, which is much tougher. The season doesn't end on week one of the preseason. It's a very long haul, and our DB's are going to have a tough go of it without some DL pressure. Hey, top teams add new guys WELL INTO THE REGULAR SEASON!!! It's very early - not at all too late to fill a glaring weakness. That's why Gibbs has had talks with Miami a week or 10 days ago, and I'm betting there are more talks going on now. Of course, NOW we are having to line up with all the other NFL teams that are trying to pry him away...
That Guy 08-07-2004, 11:21 PM right, but to use him effectively, you shouldn't just plug him in in place of a D linemen, and all the minicamps are done etc... it can be done, but every day later makes it less likely. If you going to get him and play him as if he were upshaw quality... well, that's a waste of his talent.
and ramsey's missed camp cost him, it took him a while to recover from that.
Anything could happen I guess, I just think O-Gun is a long shot.
Shane 08-08-2004, 01:22 AM I agree with the sentiment that we can't afford to trade Rod Gardner. Yes, Laveranues Coles could be out at any minute. His injury recovery seems fragile and I think he might have been wise to get that surgery.
I think that adding a player like Ogunleye is more likely after the season. We don't have to solve all of our problems in one year and if we try to hard to do so, we may hurt ourselves in the long run.

big difference between what a qb needs to know before performing well and what a d-lineman needs to know so it wouldn't be nearly as hard to plug him in in the next week or so as some people r making it seem. boston's injury definitely opens the door for a trade again, I just hope it doesn't involve next year's 1st rounder cuz next years draft I think will be deeper than this year's especially on the defensive side.
That Guy 08-08-2004, 02:05 AM I kinda think they'd be more into a good RB, or that they'd be able to get a better WR than gardner... their QBs suck and they're existing game plans are for a power back, so that seems more logical...
Ghost 08-08-2004, 02:07 AM There's no way Miami would trade their young star DE for above average "50/50" WR Rod Gardner. Good DEs are a lot more valuable than WRs like Gardner because there aren't as many of them. If Miami makes a trade, it's more likely that they'll go after RBs like Travis Henry or Willis McGahee or someone with real star potential. Regardless I'd like to see more of McCants as the Redskins' possession receiver and I hope he steps up.
bedlamVR 08-08-2004, 06:09 AM I really don't see anyone trading for O-Gun because at this point in the season HC are focusing on thier own teams to get their chosen players working. A trade at this point in the season for such a key player would be extremly disruptive and not much upside. Remember O-Gun has not been working out with the Dolphins for ever he may not be ready to contribute to any extecnt week 3 or 4 .
Also players are giving up on Gardner too soon rember he has been 2 years in the Spurrier joke and really was not what SS considered a WR should be .

I wouldn't say their QBs suck, not Fiedler at least. He's not spectacular but he wins. But I do agree that they would be targeting a RB more. You can sort of make the argument that they never really lost Boston since he had never played a down for them (that make any sense? I just woke up), but they did have Ricky Williams last year and now they don't so they have to replace him
