sancho2613 01-06-2008, 05:27 PM Me too. I actually opened the thread ready to pounce thinking it was someone complaining that we lost in Seattle.
not at all I just didn't know how you guys felt about him now because i know a lot of people weren't happy with him and hoping he would leave just not that long ago (bout the time he called those 2 timeouts). Now that he has turned it around and got into the playoffs i thought some might have a different opinion and hope that he stays just like i do. If you look back at the threads there's a lot of skins fans hoping he would retire not too long ago so like i said i just wanted to know what you guys think now after the season is over....
GusFrerotte 01-06-2008, 05:29 PM Coach should stay til the duration of his contract and bow out, hopefully a winner. I hope he stays longer as long as he can get the team going. To be honest I question if he can. Sure he got us hot in December as usual, but was that mostly on the emotion of the ST tragedy or not? We got our asses handed to us yesterday in the last 12 minutes of the game after staging a temporary comeback. Also, we have to honestly evaluate the entire season. WE had some great moments throughout the season, but with the exception of December, came up short most of the time. Some of the early wins were sort of ugly also. We have a good team, but their execution was rather lacking on the offensive side of the ball. Not sure if coach can correct that. All I know is we need to draft some good O linemen. Also we might need to look at another qb if we dump Brunell.
GusFrerotte 01-06-2008, 05:33 PM I guess you are just trying to be different?
He has a valid point. Even if Coach stays longer, it can't be for more than 2 years I would imagine. We do need new blood, Coach isn't getting any younger, neither are his assistants.

In the context of the entire season, wouldn't you say now that he did a great job all year (minus the TO vs Bills but w/ Sean's funeral looming the next day I still say cut some slack for that one). The Pats game was the only game we didn't have a shot of winning in the final minutes. And seeing how the teams that we played finished the year maybe we as fans were too hard on Coach. We had the second toughest schedule in the NFL and still made the playoffs.

There will be someone available when the time comes and Joe will pick him.

I would definitely say he did a good job and I hope he comes back. I'm excited to see what he can do next year. I really thought you were going to the NFC championship game and i was rooting for you. I think you're right about fans being hard on him but i'm sure it was kinda hard not to be disapointed with him after that t/o thing but i just hope he has a great year next year and my Christmas wish would be to see Brett Favre go out on top this year and Joe Gibbs to go out on top next year.
skinsguy 01-06-2008, 06:07 PM Unfortunately Joe will stay. I really thought he would go but when this team went on a run and made the playoffs I knew he would come back. IMO that was the only downside of this great playoff run.
I want the Skins to find a new young and energetic coach instead of going after a "name" like they always do.
Well, maybe we'll get lucky enough to have a bad season next year so that we can clean house, get a #1 draft pick for '09 and start the never ending rebuilding process that we've been in since '93. Sounds like a great plan to me.

He needs to continue on the good things he started, he is also helping to rebuild the face of our franchise with qualities players and personal. IMO
skinsfan0201 01-06-2008, 07:31 PM By the way it should not be a question and the question in my opinion is an insult. I am and most everyone is proud of the direction he is leading this team and the organization.
irish 01-06-2008, 08:10 PM So, just to be clear, you were hoping the team would crash and burn this year so that Gibbs would leave and then we'd go after some up and comer like Childress (not in the playoffs), Marinelli (not in the playoffs), Payton (not in the playoffs), or Mangini (not in the playoffs)
But really I just want to be sure I understand this, you-a Redskins fan-would have been happier had we not made the playoffs? You were rooting for us to lose so that Gibbs would be gone?
I really did think this team was going to crash & burn after Gibbs gaffe vs Buffalo (I was wrong) but TC came in and suddenly injected life in an otherwise dead team and the rest is history. I knew after the ST murder that Gibbs would be back but since Gibbs is gone after next year anyway I thought it would be better to get the precess going now instead of later. No doubt making the playoff is better than not but IMO this team made the playoffs in spite of Gibbs not because of him.
You forgot to mention Tomlin who did make the playoffs. The coaches you name all coached bad teams. If the Skins are half as good as most on this board think a young coach would have no problem guiding this talent-filled organization to the playoffs. I have no doubt this organization will hire a "name" coach as this is what the orgfanization & fans demand.
