Sellers is one of the best fullbacks in the league. This is one of the dumbest threads I've ever seen.
Trust me there are worse, you just have to look harder.

West-Coast Offense clarification.Campbell17 02-07-2008, 06:08 PM Sellers is one of the best fullbacks in the league. This is one of the dumbest threads I've ever seen. Not sure what else you could want from a guy. Also, how many 280 lb guys do you know who can hurdle people? Sellers is a beast. When the line was healthy the season before last he was better able to get to the second level, and the man created holes you could drive a mack truck through. Also, at 32 he is in no way young, but FB's often have some of their best production late in their career. Like Lorenzo Neal for example. It is possible that we could get another 3-5 years of excellent production from Sellers, so Im not sure we even need to start polishing a young replacement just yet. Certainly not one drafted before the 5th round. jrocx69 02-07-2008, 07:00 PM Youth, for one, I know we would want. He isnt gonna play for too much longer. Yes, Sellers is a good player, but if we can get someone younger and more athletic to be used in the passing game, then why not? Dallas converted a LB, that wasnt gonna make the team. He turned out pretty good. Look at Seattle's FB, remember that TD run that they scored on us in the playoffs, I dont think Sellers breaks that run and takes it to the house. Do you? you have to expand your brain just a tad... now didnt the seahawks spread our defense out and run a draw/delay play to the fb??? and when did gibbs ever spread the field for sellers?? how do you expect sellers to run for a 20 yard td when he gets the ball on 3rd and 1 and goaline situations? the major issue i had with gibbs was his ability to cram the offense together instead of spreading them out. and when sellers rushed... he had 1 wr and two tights or a xtra tackle in the game with playcalls specifically designed for 2 yard gains by rushing behind samuels and kendall. SkinsFanSince91 02-07-2008, 07:49 PM I like MS, but I think we can get younger and faster at the position for the future. Sheriff Gonna Getcha 02-07-2008, 07:53 PM I love Sellers on special teams, as a receiver, and as a run blocker. I don't think Sellers is a particularly good pass-blocker however. I've seen Big Mike whiff on far too many occasions. skinsguy 02-07-2008, 07:57 PM I definitely believe Mike Sellers is a guy you keep on the team. Yeah, he's probably more suited as a lead blocker, but are we forgetting that Chris Cooley would probably work in the passing situations? Daseal 02-07-2008, 09:35 PM First of all, I was never saying get rid of Sellers. If anything, I'd want to expand his role to be the anti-Reggie Bush. Try to use him to get mismatches in the passing game and getting the rock from time to time. However, to mention Sellers in the same breath as Lorenzo Neal when it comes to run blocking is ridiculous. Lorenzo Neal goes to the pro bowl every year for a reason, ask LT why he has such huge holes. There are plenty of reasons to not want Lorenzo Neal. Cap, Age, etc. I understand and never expected the Redskins to make a move for him. While my main question was to the importance of the fullback in the west coast offense, the 2ndary question came about Neal. I really like Sellers, but just don't like him when it comes to blocking. Give him the ball and mismatches all day, but I don't recall many incidents of him clearing out a big hole for Portis. Maybe it was due to scheme, I don't know. Part of the reason the running game struggled so much last year was obviously due to the injuries along the O-line. However when the running game got going near the end of the season a lot of the credit is attributed to Sellers. I also think you can see his impact by watching how much more the running game suffered when Sellers was out. In my opinon there was a huge difference. I really wish you'd reconsider and watch film, though I understand getting your hands on Redskin broadcast isn't exactly practical. The next best thing would be to watch Clinton Portis highlights on YouTube and see how much CP hung onto Sellers during key plays, especially during the course of the Giants game and the early part of the Vikings game (before he ran downfield full speed and gave himself a concussion). Of course he also did that a lot with RT and JJ. Either way I will not stand here and let you bad mouth MY BOY. Lol, caps and Bold type FTW. FRPLG 02-07-2008, 09:59 PM I cannot fathom why anyone who has watched Sellers thinks he isn't not only a good blocker but a very good run blocker. In terms of positions that need an upgrade on our team FB is near the bottom. And certainly not with a 38 year old. Sellers is a top 5 FB in the league. That Guy 02-08-2008, 12:10 AM maybe draft a guy like hester (if he grades 4th round or lower) for future use (Sellers is getting old), but in the short term, we'll be alright. |
