Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd

Late 3rd round 2006 - Brandon Williams from Wisconisn who still hasn't caught a pass in the NFL. They then took Jay Moore from Nebraska who wne ton IR last year.

However the thing is our front office does a great job of picking players in the draft, especially in the later rounds. In my opinion those two picks could have produced a starter and a role player.
Between Lloyd, Archuletta and Ducket, we probably lost a chance at a SuperBowl, last year. With the cap space it cost us and a total of two 3rd and two 4th round picks. I also agree with you, our front office does great with draft choices.

I don't think it can be. If we designate him post 6/1, we still have to pay his 1.8 mil roster bonus, because its due before 6/1.

Wow...that is a rosey view on last year. I think we were further away from the SB than that.

It cost us 2.9 million against the cap, to release him.

They also used the money they would have spent to re-sign Lloyd on Antonio Bryant. Brandon Lloyd had more receptions than Bryant in 2007

Mike Wise was just on Comcast SportsNet talking about the Redskins release of Brandon Lloyd.

He joked about how one day last Summer, Lloyd walked up to Clinton Portis in the locker room and said "I went fishing the other day and caught a fish that looked just like you" Clinton just shook his head, and walked away. Any wonder why this guy is no longer a Redskin?

Portis was the last person in that locker room basically to support him but that ended at the end of last season. Lloyd alienated too many people throughout the organization. He was just flat out rude from what I've heard and what has been reported. And if I remember right he got into a fight with either Campbell or Portis in the locker room. Some people think that they were all cheering for him when he caught that pass this year (Lions game I think), but really they were apparently mock cheering.

What upset most of the players/coaches beyond the way he treated people at Redskins Park and his inability to really learn his role in the offense is the fact that they all agree he could have easily been their best receiver, instead he just wasted his talent.

Now I know there's a "we didn't give him a chance, we never threw him the ball" sentiment but the reality is that Lloyd has to shoulder a lot of the blame. And if people keep trying to make excuses for him (like they do for Ramsey, like they did for LaVar) then he'll fail wherever he goes.

Back in 2006 though, we had Clinton Portis in the prime of his career, a quarterback who was having a better statistical year than the prior year, and if the picks had been used on defensive depth, we probably wouldn't have stunk so bad on defense that year after a few injuries.

There's no reason to think we couldn't have improved on 2005 without those stupid signings. Because we failed, we started over at midseason, and 2007 became somewhat of a rebuilding year--instead of the decline year it would have been if we had been great in 2006. I mean, if we went to the NFC championship after winning the division in 2006, then an injury riddled year in which we won 9 games and got beat in the first round would have been considered a failure, but considering just how worse off those signings made us, I think we were all happy to see the team get back on track for 2007.

The 49er's :shakes head: They've drafted a lot of good players, but when you have sub-par play at the QB and WR position you can't really do much. I'm personally hoping that Shaun Hill does well there, but then again Alex Smith is a good guy and I'm sad to see him struggle as much as he has.

Unfortunatly Smith is becoming the poster child for the "you don't need to draft a QB just because you have a top 5 pick" sentiment" In my opinion he should have droped to the later part of the first round and been given a chance to learn.

So what have we learned today kids? Everyone involved in the Brandon Lloyd trade got screwed.

Smith should get the chance to do it though. I see the Niners winning 6-8 games behind the strength of their defense this year. They had a really, really shitty year, but they aren't void of talent like they were back in 2005.
