I'm not even sure that we fired up Redskins1 for Hackett.

Damn we could have at least done that. we fired it up for Archuleta and Lloydhttp://www.thewarpath.net/images/icons/icon10.gif

The way I'm reading this situation is he didn't completely reject us, he just didn't accept our offer, or any other offer he's gotten thus far. He's doing his due diligence, visiting with all interested teams. We weren't willing to throw a pile of money at him. Obviously he's not exactly a hot FA or he'd have a team by now. I could see Carolina getting something done since aside from Smith and an old Mushin Muhammad they have nobody in the passing game. And Tampa has a lot of money to spend.

*I* was not very optomistic about signing Hackett because it wasn't likely he was going to receive a max offer, and the team is not desperate for his services. Since we do have other options, him rejecting the teams offer is no big deal.

I like the approach, they offered him a deal they felt comfortable with, he rejected it so we move on. We're not begging, other opportunities will present themselves.

I like our approach also. It is nice to see us actually negotiating rather than immediately giving away the farm. I think we still have at least a 50/50 shot to get Hackett.

I would like to see Hackett before Bryant Johnson, just my .02

Same here, I just hope they do not overpay for him. Hackett's stats have been mediocre in addition his history of injuries. In the games he did play in last year he put up some nice numbers but if he misses half a season he will be of little help to the Redskins.

It is possible, with a change of scenery, Hackett has the potential to become a breakout star ala Santana Moss or he could be a bust like Brandon Lloyd.

I dont think odds are that good....I think closer to 25% to land him...
He implies three other teams will match the Skins offer
Look at the coach's quote below

“This will all be up to him,” coach Jim Zorn told David Elfin of the Washington Times. ”We’re not going to risk it all to try to pay him. The financial package has to work. But if we have a chance to get him, we’d like to have him. He’s got two other teams plus Seattle that wants to match [his contract offers].”

I think you make a good point though in that Hackett has great per play production, but it's very hard to compare his production in Seattle to the incumbent guys to see where they are. He may only turn out to be the third receiver once we get him in here, and we have to offer him a contract with that fact in mind.

Do you feel like he's gonna land here, if so why? We did offer him a contract and he passed on it, and off to Tampa he went for his next interview. From all report's after Tampa, then comes Carolina.

IMO I would have to consider him a long shot at this point. I would think Tampa has the money and doesn't mind overspending. Just my guess, my bet right now would be leaning toward Tampa landing D.J.

Still some team is going to get him, and this is who Hackett is: he's established himself as a non-scrub, but Washington isn't exactly a place that is short on WR depth. If he progresses he may shoot to the top of the depth chart here, but he also may damn himself to obscurity here if he can't push Moss out of the way as the non-Cooley go to guy.

What about Dwayne Jarret. Carolina drafted him high last year. You would have to think that they are develponig him behind Musin Muhammad.
