Favre to the Jets

Favre is going to be a fish out of water up in NY. IMO there is no way this is going to work. He's got to learn a new offense in a couple of weeks, he's out of shape, he hasn't worked with the wr's at all, his heart doesn't seem to be into it. He should just retire. But what they did to Chad Pennington was just wrong. They sent his ass home on a plane all by himself from Cleveland. I guess that's the cold reality of the NFL.

I agree he's got an uphill battle as far as learning the offense and getting on the same page with his teammates. Not sure I agree about him being out of shape or not having his heart fully in it. We'll see how it goes.

Did you see his press conference yesterday? He kept talking about how he will always be a Packer and how he spent 16 great years there. He just kept rambling but he never said anything about how happy he was to be traded to the Jets. He just looked like he didn't want to be there. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

He's probably making sure he keeps as many fans as possible, can't blame him for that.

Although he brought all of this crap on himself and in a way deserved it, he was right about the NFL being a business first.

Well with all the drama and back and forth between the Packers I think he just wanted to make it clear that there were no hard feelings. If he really didn't want to go to NY I think he would have just said F it and retired. He clearly wants to play to me and he's got the added incentive of proving the Packers wrong. And I'm sure he signed off on the move before hand otherwise the trade wouldn't have happened.

Farve will have some magic moments this year & they'll no doubt be all over every media outlet. But overall I think the expectations of what he can do for the jets might just be way out of line.

The Jets had problems right from the time they signed Faneca, Pace et al to big contracts. L. Coles & some other players complained about their deals & said the guys already there should get re-upped first.

Now they cut Pennington. How will that sit w/the vets on the team? Farve is used to having the team identity shaped around him, but now he goes into a potentially disgruntled/low morale locker room & has to fit in. Coles & Pennington were friends as I recall & we all know LC can be a diva himself. How will he & Farve get along?

He's certainly no Jeff George, but I see too much of the 2000 skins in the 08 NYJ. They're banking on a lot of big name signings. They have the potential on paper to be pretty good, but I see a rocky road to 7-9 wins at best for them.

I think somewhere around .500 is reasonable for the Jets, with 10 wins being their best case scenario. It's going to take a while before Favre is up to speed in that offense and who really knows if it will be a good fit for him at all? And it's not like he'll have the same quality of playmakers that he did in GB. I like what they did to upgrade their OL and they should have a good running game, so the cupboard isn't entirely bare. Cotchery and Coles are pretty decent WRs. But the jokers that have Super Bowl hopes are kidding themselves.

Why would the Jets agree to a 2nd rounder (if he plays 70% of the snaps and makes the playoffs), or 1st rounder (80% of snaps and makes the SB) for only a one year rental? The Jets HAVE to believe that they will make the playoffs with this deal, otherwise, what's the point of hurting the development of Clemens? Did Favre secretly agree to play at least 2 years? Did he agree to mentor Clemens (something he publicly refused to do with Rogers)? I suppose the Jets are just plain dumb, but logic would suggest otherwise. Favre is old and having to learn a new system will not be easy, so year 1 would be a learning process. A struggle from Favre would be expected...so again why give up a good high pick for one year? Does anyone else out there think he committed to a longer term?

A lot of people have pointed out (Skip Bayless for one, I believe) that the Jets have ten games on their schedule where they might be favored. That seems like a lot, but that doesn't necessarily make it an easy schedule. Consider that the Jets play these teams this year: New England (twice), Seattle, San Diego, and Denver. Those aren't very winnable games (potentially saving Denver), so the other games where they "might" be favored become must wins if they plan on being a playoff team.

The Jets simply aren't good enough to run through teams like Oakland, Arizona, Cincinnati, St. Louis, or Tennessee -- those mid level teams -- and say, "wow, there's not a loss on that schedule!" With the tough top-end teams they play, 3-2 won't cut it against that mid-level schedule. All of this is also assuming they go 4-0 against Miami and Buffalo, which although they will be favored, likely won't happen. The only games on their schedule I would expect them to win would be Kansas City, and maybe San Francisco.

As a personal aside, I'm not convinced the team is remarkably better with Favre than with Pennington. It was only two years ago that Favre single-handedly played the worst football of his career with a young, talented team, and kept them out of the playoffs. There's a stronger chance we see that Favre this year than the one that set career highs last season.

I believe the Jets get a pick back if Favre only plays one year.
