SmootSmack 08-13-2008, 10:20 PM I personally think David Elfin of the Washington Times does a better job with his blog. In many cases, he provides inside news before JLC does (but then again so do a lot of people) yet he makes sure not to just post gossip. Since he's not at the WaPo, what he does tends to fly under the radar but he does a good job.
As for JLC he does a fine job of reporting what he sees that others don't have access to, but as I stated above I almost never hear something from him before I hear it anywhere else (granted I'm a special case).
Regardless, the honeymoon will eventually cease with Zorn for JLC. At some point Zorn will say one thing and mean the other or say nothing and that's just part of the job. As a journalist you have to deal with it. You have to be thick-skinned, persistent, able to navigate through the bull and misdirections that are thrown at you. And accept that you're going to be wrong sometimes, you're going to get beat. If you can't do all that, you just don't belong in the business.
70Chip 08-14-2008, 03:40 AM I would like to hear from anyone, anyone (other than JLC) who has been treated like a "moron" by Joe Gibbs.
He says, "Gibbs treats people like they are morons."
Joe Gibbs stayed and signed autographs for fans in the early morning hours after flying back from a loss in Seattle. Two days later, after resigning, he stayed signing and talking until every last fan was done. The fans all left before he did.
What happened last year was that La Canfora got a source from another team to to dump on Stephon Heyer, Gibbs then stood up for his player, and JLC got his feelings hurt and threw a hissy fit. He pretended in public that he was all cool, but I just wanted to let people know what he e-mailed me. BTW, Smootsmack, JLC refers to Elfin as "Day Late Dave". JLC is a prick.
I'll bet you the people that has a problem with his comments are Larry Michael fans.
I'll guarantee it.
Nobody even cares about Larry Michael, that's how irrelevant he is.
He's a total homer schlub, nobody takes him seriously.
BlueBlaze 08-14-2008, 07:44 AM I'll bet you Wade Phillips wears a girdle.Thank you for proving my point. You have been a great example.
skinsfan69 08-14-2008, 09:33 AM Who gives a crap what JLF or the media thinks? If he doesn't like it go cover Bill Belichick. If I were a coach, I wouldn't say a damn thing to them either. Yes Zorn is open and all but just wait til things get tough. Or wait til a story gets twisted around. He hasn't got burned by the media yet. Everyone knows how Gibbs is. He's as uptight as it gets with the media and you'll never ever hear him say anything bad about the other team and he doesn't like his players running off at the mouth. I remember in 05 we were playing a terrible SF team and all week long he made them sound like the 85 Bears. It was almost comical. I think we beat the crap out of them that week. 56 to what ever.
#56fanatic 08-14-2008, 09:49 AM I have been away for a while, and thought I would check back in and what a way to get in the mix, Gibbs.
I defended Gibbs for as long as I possibly could. I think JLC is very good at letting us know what is going on. None of us really know what goes on behind the walls of Redskins Park, but I bet you the Joe we all saw was nothing like the Joe in the locker room. I am sure there is some truth to what JLC says about how gibbs treated the media, a lot of coaches have that "i forget more football than you will ever learn in your life" attitude towards the media. I think everyone was shocked at what Gibbs brought back to the Redskins. It worked the first go'round but really wasn't very successfule the second. Yeah two playoffs, which is awesome, but honestly it was a miracle that we won 5 and 4 games in row to make it.
Zorn seems to have brought some freshness with him, the players seem to love it and the media as well, which translates us fan feeling great about Zorn.
lets all move forward from the Gibbs thing.

BB, trust me when I tell you that Larry Michael is no one to most Redskins fans. No one takes his garbage seriously and I bet most fans would like it if he just went away. The guy simply sucks.

I totally agree, Zorn brings a freshness that Gibbs didnt have.
Gobbs 2.0 was (no matter what people will admit) a big disappointment. Had anyone predicted what Gibbs actually did they would have been laughed and ridiculed off this site. Gibbs was not brought back to have 2 losing seasons and slide into the playoffs twice, he was brought back to win a title and he didnt do it. I for one was glad to see him step aside and let some fresh ideas have their chance.
saden1 08-14-2008, 10:02 AM I don't get it....why should anyone care what LaCanfora thinks or says? I never read his stuff and if you don't think much him then don't read his stuff. As for Joe Gibbs, I wouldn't say he talks to people like they're morons but he does talk to people like they're children. Some folks appreciate hearing unfeathered truth fat-free and without any added sugar.
SmootSmack 08-14-2008, 10:06 AM I think it's myopic to say that Gibbs was simply brought back to bring a title. Beyond being coach he was also President. He was also brought back to restore some pride in the team, and set the team up to be successful for years to come. It wasn't Zorn that brought in Campbell, Portis, Landry, Moss, Cooley, Golston, Montgomery, etc.
Not to take anything from Zorn, but as skinsfan69 pointed out just wait until things get tough. I'm excited right now about what Zorn can and will do with this team (much of which was put together over the last four years) but I don't see the need to put down what has been accomplished to get us here. Yes it's disappointing that we didn't win a title, but in the long run there is simply much more than that.
But that's neither here nor there with regards to JLC
