irish 08-18-2008, 11:52 AM Puh-lease, fans can be so fickle. I love all this talk about Colt being the next coming of Joe Montana. Or so it seems. Look the kid can throw the football. There's no denying that. And if he continues to grow and JC stagnates, then maybe in a year or two, he could have a shot at challenging for the starting job.
But so far Colt has been impressive under less than impressive circumstances.
JC continues to make the same mistakes he has made throughout his time with the Skins. I hope he makes improvement but I just dont see him getting much better. As I have said in the past this is a make or break year for JC and if he doesnt show some real improvement Zorn will move on.
I really think that Colt is the QB Zorn is focusing on trying to get to the next level. I'm not saying he's not coaching up JC but I really think that Zorn sees Colt as the starter in a year or two unless JC makes some significant strides this season.
One bad game, check that one bad quarter and all of a sudden the JC doubters are out in full force. This is almost comical. Kinda reminds me of Suisham missing his first kick in the HOF game and people wanted his head. And for the Colt lovers I'm sorry but the guy is not ready to face first string talent in a regular season game, he would get eaten alive. His mechanics stink, he's not disciplined in the pocket, and he makes some very risky throws... he needs alot of work.
jgalecpa 08-18-2008, 12:04 PM At the moment, I think Colt may be the second coming of ....Babe Laufenberg.
Babe was the best 3rd string qb we ever had. Aginst ofther 3rd stringers, he was amazing.
We have only seen colt against the JV, and he has performed admirably.
As for JC, I am currently in a 'wait and see' mode. Pre-season really doesn't count.
However, I purely go by numbers. If his QB rating doesn't start rising significantly (say to 85-95 for the year), his future at this franchise will be in doubt.

I agree that there is no way CB is ready for prime time but IMO he sees the field better than JC and makes decisions much much quicker. His mechanics are not the best but then again neither are JC's or Brett Favre's. What bugs me most is that this is JCs 4th or 5th year and he is still making the same mistakes (slow decisions, indecision, bad reads, forced balls) he's always made. I know he lacks some experience but its not like he's been standing around Redskins park doing nothing since he got here. I would have though JC would have been much further along than he is. Barring a major injury he is the starter all season but like I said, unless he really shows Zorn some improvement Zorn will begin phasing him out.

Yup. I want to vomit when I read "JC... but Colt............"
skinsfan69 08-18-2008, 12:25 PM I can't believe people are already complaining about JC after a couple of bad drives in a pre-season football game. This is so absurd it's not even funny or not even worth talking about.

Apparently, 12 of 15 for 130 yards and 1 TD and no turnovers is NOT cause for optimism whereas 4/10 for 40 yards is cause for pesimism.

It's not about this one game, it's about the games prior when he did the same things. You want to see those things corrected, not continuing as he progresses.
Ade Jimoh Fan Club 08-18-2008, 12:33 PM . He then goes on to say he never would have made that bet if JC was in, and he’s a JC supporter. Why is that? ... makes you think.
Wow, there's a lot of gippity-goop being talked about with JC vs. Colt. Bottomline is this:
* JC is clearly the starter and better QB at this point. He's got a ton of talent.
* JC is not a good "cruch time" QB - based on his chokes last year. He doesn't appear to "have it" like the great QB's do. Maybe this will change, but he needs to prove that he can fire that winning TD into coverage with seconds counting down (not INT's which is his normal preference).
* Colt is fun to talk about, but he hasn't done poopity-sqat against anything that resembles 1st team defenses.
* Everyone of Colt's TD's could easily have been INT's (tight coverage), so either he's a freakishly amazing QB or he's freakishly lucky.
* If all plays out well, JC will be our QB for the next 1-2 years. If he turns out to be good, we give him lots of $$ and have our long-term QB. If not, he's done-cakes and hopefully Colt has 2 years of experience and is ready to take it from there.
* It will be a long, depressing season if JC stinks up the place. Especially with all of the talent around him. That said, we have to give him at least until mid-season before we jump down his throat (Zorn too).

Again, it's not about ONE bad game Matty. It's about wanting to see change.. and what we saw on Saturday was not good. The hope is that he'll put that kind of play behind him and get better and not regress.
