Beemnseven 09-21-2008, 10:14 AM Totally agree. Good post.
Howard is a disgrace the way he went around and made an ass of himself.
About Obama, I just find it odd that this is a senator not following the code.
United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10 (http://www.stpeteblue.com/Flagcode.htm)
"During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain this position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, those present shouldface toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there."
So he's either really stupid, or really ignorant. How can you run for president and do such a thing?
Although his stance on 3rd term abortion is even a stronger reason not to vote for him.
Note the use of the word "should", and the omission of the word "must".
As to the "3rd term abortion" nonsense, I'm quite certain that Obama's stance doesn't require a 3rd term abortion for those facing such a dilemma -- just that the option should be there, and not a matter for the federal government with which to insert itself (if you'll pardon the expression).
4mrusmc 09-23-2008, 10:21 PM We don't live in a fascist state. Get over it!
You are right saden, we don't live in a fascist state. And we also don't live in a country where we have a military goose stepping through Main St. snatching people out of their houses, and putting them into box cars, and shipped off to a concentration camp just because somone didn't know proper Anthem Code.
But, Obama looked border-line defiant standing there during the National Anthem with his hands folded, while the other candidates were doing the right thing. Say what you want saden, but Barry has a deep seeded resentment for this country. But, don't blame him, he got most of his influence from his spirtual mentor of 20 years, Rev. Wright.

You know, you're absolutely right, I don't know why but you are right. I tell you what though, he isn't as bad as me. I hold my crotch while the anthem plays...I wonder what they would say about me if I were running for office.

This whole Obama-Hand-Heart incident is not even newsworthy; these type of issues should be reserved for those lame e-mails that extremists in both parties resort to. But, why would you even joke about holding your crotch when the anthem plays? It's one thing to fail to go through the motions of pretending to care about the flag. It's quite another thing to essentially piss on it.

You make it sound as if I shot Mother Teresa. Folks need to lighten up. With respect to flags in general, I don't believe they have or should have as much weight as people give them though I wouldn't "piss" on them.
To be frank, when I see the American flag I don't feel anything, it's just another flag, like that of the Chines and the Russians. When I read our constitution, however, I feel joy, proud and appreciative. Point is flags are not as important as ideas and people shouldn't get their panties twisted in a bunch over them.

I know you were just responding to usmc and you wouldn't hold your crotch during the national anthem. But, keep in mind that whatever your politics, that flag has draped the coffins of thousand of U.S. soldiers, sailors and airmen who have fought and died for this country. A vast majority of them were volunteers. It drapes the coffin of most veterans when they pass away and will drape mine. The U.S. Flag symbolizes the ideas and people of this country.

I feel differently, but I don't feel everyone has to agree with me. Fair enough.
Not putting your hand over your heart but still standing respectfully while the anthem is played is not at all the same thing as the comments Howard made. Not even close
100% agree. It's a shame this thread had to take such a retarded and unrelated turn.
dmek25 09-24-2008, 03:49 PM i really appreciate every time i stand, and face the flag when they play our national anthem. and yes, my hand is placed over my heart. but to try and compare Sen. Obama not placing his hand over his heart, to some scum bag, that basically said piss on America, is simply ludacris. lets save those comparisons for fox news

I understand and I respect your position. It is my belief however that soldiers didn't die for the flag and the flag should not represent ideas or people. People and ideas speak for themselves. Truth is nations evolve and people evolve for better or worse but flags do not (unless there's a fundamental change in a nation ala revolution). If in the future, for example, we become tyrannical like Nazi Germany our flag would no longer represent the ideas and ideals of people in the past or present.
All I'm saying is don't put too much stock in flags and lapel pins. They are not that important.
