mooby 09-29-2008, 09:18 AM A tad unfair. Did you see the play he was all over Witten and he still made the catch? If his hand had only been a couple of inches over, he'd have broken that pass up and you'd be hailing it as a great play. I do think Horton is a better player, but let's not be too hard on Doughty.
Actually I thought I was being nice enough lol. I did see that play, I wasn't being too hard on him. The number of bad plays > the number of good plays, that's all imo. And doing the "if" scenario does no good, the fact remains his hand didn't go far enough to tip the ball so it was still a bad play. You're right, it would've been a good play if he had tipped that pass, but it wasn't and it cost us.

squib kick? wow.
doughty has another bad day at the office, but his fantasy team was 2-1 as of last night...
lavar was a little too happy on the post game show (actually, i was totally cool with that, but while i'm kicking puppies....).

That coverage on Witten doesn't get any better.
People just look for anything to rag on Doughty.
The hold on Rabach seemed a little sketchy, and I'm not going to be too hard on him for the downfield call either. The play was breaking down and that's when shit like that happens. It sucks that 2 scores got called back and you could see he was pretty bummed about it.
SmootSmack 09-29-2008, 10:01 AM Also, I don't want to be down on him. And actually I think I agree with the decision, but do you guys think Zorn should have gone for the TD on their last drive instead of the FG?

I was on the fence with that. On one hand I love Zorn's aggressiveness, but that mentality isn't going to work all the time. In that situation I couldn't argue with milking the clock and not risking a turnover, and taking a 9 point lead with just a few minutes on the clock.
You gotta' believe that the plan changes and morphs completely with the elements at the time. score, field position, time outs, momentum, etc. While my ego wants the TD, you cannot argue with the results.

I agree w/ his decision to run b/c he would essential require them to score twice w/ zero timeouts and assuming they don't get a quicky, have to get an onsides kick. That's alot to do my friend. The odds are against it.
So given the favorable odds, I agree w/ his decision.

I thought both were shit calls.
The holding was absurd. Didn't look much like a hold to me.
The downfield is crap. Straight crap. How can a lineman be expected to block a player, drive him backwards and then not be "downfield" when the defensive player disengages? What is he supposed to do? Magically float back to the line of scrimmage like a fairy? I don't get that. It's not even like he did anything after the defensive player moved off. He just stood there. He wasn't pursing or anything. I don't get how that can be called downfield.
FRPLG 09-29-2008, 10:24 AM PS. That crew was awful. I don't we've had particularly good crews this year. But that one was the worst.
