We need sacks!!Meks 10-25-2008, 03:37 PM every pass they bAT down is just as good as a sack for this fan. Defensewins 10-25-2008, 04:05 PM I keep saying it. Defensive tackle is our biggest need. Most here would disagree with me- everyone seems to be content with Golston and Montgomery, but I think our entire defense could benefit heavily from a big, two-gap tackle who can collapse the pocket and get after the quarterback. This would free up our ends to get sacks and create more opportunities for our linebackers and secondary to make plays. This unit is playing lights out right now no question, but it's scary to think how much better it could be with an elite dt. Oh, and another cover corner might not be bad too. :twocents: With the way Leigh Torrence, Fred Smoot and Justin Tyron have been playing this year, IMO we need CB help just lightly more than DL. We need both. I agree that we need a DT that will put fear in the opposing team, we currently do not have one. But either a CB or DT or both would be great. We have no second round pick. Our second round pick will be retiring after the 2009 season. Very short Redskins career. My main concern is history has shown Snyderrato has never seen a WR or skill position player on offense they did not want to draft. We will probably end up with another draft of Taylor Jacobs, Cliff Russell and Rod Gardner. dmvskinzfan08 10-25-2008, 04:23 PM Its not about the D being a concern. Its not about not being happy with the record. Its about the team improving on offense and defense so we can make a push deep in the play-offs. I am thinking about what we need to work on as far as the defensive side on the ball. Imagine how lights out our defense would be if we were able to actually hit the QB more and get some sacks. 9 sacks in 7 games is not acceptable. Maybe things will change once JT gets completely healthy as far as pass rushing goes. But from what I have seen so far. Carter is the only one getting close to the QB on a consistent basis. That needs to change. Its not a concern just an area that needs improvement. 53Fan 10-25-2008, 05:12 PM I understand what you're saying. Our defense is playing very well and we are getting pressure on the quarterback and knocking balls down. No complaints. But how many more turnovers and how much more dominating would our defense be with a consistant pass rush that actually sacked the quarterback? I think we'll get more when J.T. gets healthy but it does seem odd not to have any more than we do. Especially with the blitzing we do. Right now I would like to see our passing game open up a little more and I believe in time it will. Maybe this week. But being a defensive kind of guy myself, there is nothing I like seeing better than a SACK. 4mrusmc 10-25-2008, 09:36 PM Sure we may not have alot of sacks, but I would like to see an under-apprieciated stat be kept for balls batted down, and by whom. I think that our D would have that stat on lock-down. But yes, more sacks would be great. To me, for some time now, it appears that the whole batting down passes thing is a product of our coaches teaching this technique. It looks like the D-line has some sort of internal clock that they have. They have only a certain amount of seconds to get the qb, and if they don't they are more focused on getting hands up to block passes. Phillip Daniels was great using this technique. 53Fan 10-26-2008, 10:23 AM Yes. Daniels is one of the best at knocking down passes and playing against the run. I know he wants to come back next year. He said he would help keep the other team in third and long and then Taylor could come in and do his thing. When he retires I'd like to see the Redskins keep him on as an assistant coach on the line. rypper11 10-26-2008, 11:06 AM every pass they bAT down is just as good as a sack for this fan. Better since batted passes can turn into defensive TD's (right Pete Kendall?). joelew1@cox.net 10-26-2008, 09:55 PM I would like to see a little more pressure on the QB. However, it seems like GB defensive scheme is working. I think, as the season goes on GB will do more blissing with CH and DL. dmvskinzfan08 10-26-2008, 10:05 PM It was funny. When I was watching the game today. I kept yelling at the screen get'em. Hoping they would sack the QB...lol |
