Phillip Daniels.
I would DEFINITELY like to see that tried out. I like Griff but he's injured quite a bit. A line of Evans, Daniels, Montgomery, and Carter with Golston coming in occasionally and JT in Marcus's spot would be interesting. I would hate to see Marcus leave but with his injuries and salary it may be inevitable. I don't want to come across as the mad scientist here but it would be interesting to see how that would work out.
Defensewins 12-05-2008, 09:40 PM I like Monty, but Gtripp, I've seen a fair share of plays over his career where he gets his ass shoved all over the place. Perhaps it's his intensity, and that's where Golston definitely has him beat. The guy is definitely talented, but until he gets that eye of the tiger and plays all out on every snap, I just don't see him ever reaching Pro Bowl level of play. I think that's his "achilles heel", no pun intended.
I agree Matty.
Sorry GTripp but I do not see what you see in Montgomery. He is definitely not the 'lone dominant player' on our defense. He is good and getting better, but he is not dominant by any stretch. If you haven't seen him play poorly in the past, it does not mean it did not happen.

Looks like we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I like that you did not take offense by me disagreeing with you. There have been some very angry/sensitive people on here lately. You are not only smart but also a gentlemen. Keep up the good work.
We can agree to disagree.

We can agree to disagree.Thank you, sir. Same respect to you.
These plays, I think, occur with him playing the three technique. He just looks lost in space. Dillweed, if you read his stuff, noticed this early this year. When teams run the stretch at him, or screens, or the draw play, and can stretch the gap size on the line of scrimmage, he's much more likely to get sealed out of the play or even out leveraged in a double team and driven 8-10 yards out of the play.
On the nose (which is traditionally Golston's position), he seems far more comfortable. He does get a little high sometimes, but I was comparing him to Kris Jenkins: a flawed but incredibly dominant player. I stand by the comparison.
If he has an effort issue, it's not on the tape. Just like most big guys, if you get under his pads you can take him where you want him to go in the running game. He seems to do a good job getting the first blow in though, especially against Centers, since they have to snap the ball first.
Ok good point, I can buy the stuff about him playing the three technique and simply not being suited for that spot, but in regard to his effort and concentration that's kinda been a knock on him since he came out of college, and it seems to be something that Blache has brought up about him and why he favors Golston over him. I do agree with your point that he's a flawed but dominant player, and I would like to see him get more snaps and Blache should do more to get the best out of his abilities.

Just to get your opinion on the matter, if Daniels comes back and is 100% do you see him back in a Redskins uniform next year? I know Blache is a big fan of his.

Good thread and proof that we can all disagree on things and keep it civil.
hooskins 12-05-2008, 10:13 PM Good points about Monty, still not sold on him but not opposed to seeing more him to get a tougher push from the line.
As for Blache, I would agree with your previous points that he may have overblitzed during the first half when we got burned. Eli had great reads and he should've altered his game plan.
hopefully we aren't getting the egomaniac of Williams in Blache...But also aren't many coaches like this anways? They prefer certain players and others are in the doghouse.
I am not fully ready to believe Betts and Davis cannot contribute right away, just Zorn isn't really feeling them right now..
GTripp0012 12-05-2008, 10:26 PM But also aren't many coaches like this anways? They prefer certain players and others are in the doghouse. Yeah, I suppose. This never really occurred to me and I'm not sure why.
Blache does have a strange attachment to University of Georgia defensive linemen (Evans, Daniels, Golston). I was joking with one of my buddies that the Skins are going to draft Matthew Stafford, and then play him at defensive end.
