SmootSmack 01-20-2009, 12:51 PM Honeymoon is over for Obama now, he's got a job to do and he better do it better than everyone's already immensely lofty expectations of him. DynamiteRave 01-20-2009, 12:51 PM DC is a ****ing mess. I had to take my aunt out at 5am this morning and let me tell you, if you were taking the Metro, "screwed" doesn't begin to explain how bad it was. I live between 2 Metro stations (Greenbelt and Fort Totten, if you're from the area) and got curious and decided to see how bad it was at 5:30am. Greenbelt station was backed up. There was 20-30 minute wait just to get into the PARKING LOT. Police had blocked off the parking lot to PG Mall and to the new Metro Shops garage. I figured if people were smart, they'd just drive about 4-5 blocks away and park in the Home Depot parking lot and just walk and pray they don't get ticketed or towed. Fort Totten Station was way better. No red tape, less police presence, but then again it is Fort Totten. :) But yeah this morning and right now (people are leaving), I feel terrible for those people on the mall, just purely because of the transportation issues. Though I wish I could've been there. firstdown 01-20-2009, 01:05 PM Obama sure is stepping into a huge pile of shit, hopefully he can help to get things turned around. Well its kind of like running a football team. If you take over one that is 1/15 its alot easier to improve then taking over one that is 12/4 so I'm not sure if that a good thing or a bad for Obama. JoeRedskin 01-20-2009, 01:07 PM Read, but did not see, Obama's speech. Lots of good stuff in it. Huge expectations for him. If he can bridge the gap between right and left, yay for him. Each side has valid points and each side has its uncompromising elements. True bi partisanism will be a difficult thing to achieve given the polarization of the past 16 years. I think the country is ripe for it, but it will take some effort (on both sides of the aisle) to look at their differences as philosophical rather than judgmental. Trample the Elderly 01-20-2009, 02:12 PM When they stop strong-arming everyone for taxation and start actually obeying the rules outlined in the Constitution then I'll believe. Until then it's the oligarchy's country. I just live here. Everyone makes a big deal about Obama like they did Bush. No one seems to ever hold Congress accountable? They write the legislation and enact it. Most of it is illegal to begin with. I dropped out of politics and into blogs. I wish the Democrats well with running the country. If they only run it into the ground half as much as the Republicans it will be a good start. I entertained the thought of Alaska but it's too cold and the Redskins game wouldn't be on television. Dirtbag59 01-20-2009, 02:41 PM "All are free, All are equal." ZOMG OBAMA R SOCIALS. I r call for peach. The funny thing is if you guys all came down to Georgia your jaw would drop at the outright stupidity people display when coming up with arguments for why Obama won't be a good president. Among them "He's not a christain" "He's a socialist" "Bill Ayers, Bill Ayers, Bill Ayers, Bill Ayers, Rev Wright" "Welcome to socialism" "Barrack the magic..." Ok so maybe it's nothing you haven't heard before but the absolute openness and acceptance of such remarks really is enough to make your jaw drop. To me the whole idea that although the country may be a bit down it is up us all to pull it back up is very inclusive without trying too hard. It reminds me of Kennedy's message "Ask not for what your country can do for you, but for what you can do for your country," but I'm guessing that's what Obama is going for. mredskins 01-20-2009, 03:04 PM I agree that it's a good one, I just wish I could have seen it in person or even on TV. Took the words right out of my mouth!!!! I was waiting for him to say that exact quote. |
