Monday morning I got laid. OFF. Now, I also have a business that I run and a couple of other small means of income on the side, but I had a full time job that I wasn't planning on leaving until May (if even then).

It really pisses me off that they waited until monday morning, when the 2 main guys at the plant would be gone and they had the safety guy (who's like their errand boy because he's married to the owner's niece) who's a nice guy deliver the news.

I made it through 3 rounds, but since I was one of the newest guys at the plant, and made as much as and more money than many of the guys that had been there for 20+ years my number came up in round 3.

They promised to call me back first chance but that doesn't really do much for me. I filed for unemployment benefits, so we'll see how that goes. Its only wednesday and I'm already going a little stir-crazy.

Anybody else going through this? Any suggestions?

Also, if anyone in the NOVA area needs any electrical work let me know. We're licensed, insured, and will give discounts to warpathers!

Sorry to hear that, EE.

I went through it back in late August. I was working in mortgage banking and got laid off. I suppose it wasn't too shocking given the sad state of the mortgage industry and the economy in general. I was pissed, but I got over it. They gave me a decent severance which was cool. I'm working a sales job right now that I'm not too happy with (working an average of 55 hours a week and the compensation isn't that great), and I'm actively hunting for other work.

Sorry to hear that. We're heading into a round of layoffs ourselves, planning on shedding about 6% of our workforce. That's a tough deal in this economy, good luck to you, I hope you land on your feet.

We're bracing ourselves for our turn to get the ax. When M$ is laying people off what hope do we have? You got move on and look for something else bro. Good luck.

Good luck man. It sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat. My company has been slowly picking off people for almost a year now, with big cuts to different divisions every month or so.
I work for a company that does the direct marketing for a ton of retailers and banks, so right now a lot of our clients would rather hold on to their $$$ just to try to keep their companies afloat.

I'm sorry to hear that you got canned. I work in the banking industry so my number will be up sooner or later.
They'll give my job to someone in Bombay.

I hope they hurry up and create these green jobs they've been talking about. My landlord doesn't cut any slack, nor does VA Power or my grocery store.

Here's an idea, renounce your citizenship and forget how to speak English. You're sure to get a job then. Hell, you might get mine.

That sucks man. Even though its my final year of college I've kinda experienced this. I was suppose to get a internship(which would amount to a fulltime job) this semester until I got an email a couple days before I got back from break saying that the budget was cut and interns were cut first.

Obviously I don't have a family to feed or huge bills to pay, but the point is economy is f'ing everyone. It is really hard to get a job for recent undergrads, and I go to a pretty good school.
