The thing is I haven't seen him play OLB at USC, but maybe at the combine or when the Redskins visit with him they'll put him through some OLB drills, but from what I heard, his NFL stock is at MLB.

Yeah, he's definitely a MLB. Maybe he could play outside, but is that something he would even want to do for a couple of years? I'm with you Vallin. Why draft the guy if he isn't going to play for awhile. He's a great talent, but not one we need right now. The Goat 02-04-2009, 10:46 PM The guy i'm getting curious about is Jason Smith because i half wonder if he'll be the only OT left by 13. I know SS said Andre Smith could fall to us but his stock right now is very high and besides OT seems to be a "safe pick" now in the first round so I won't be surprised if the three highest rated guys are gone by 13. Anyway, I notice Jason Smith is the smallest of the group and at least right now expected to fall a bit. 53Fan 02-04-2009, 10:59 PM Jason Smith is highly thought of. A lot of mocks have us picking him at 13. SmootSmack 02-05-2009, 07:19 AM Any particular reason? Are you hearing rumblings the rest of us aren't privy to? No, let me just make this clear for a second here, I haven't heard anything to legitimately suggest they have any idea what they want to do at the QB position, with or without JC. I have no inside knowledge on Campbell being let go or benched or anything like that. These are just my own suspicions. From what I understand Jason Smith and Andre Smith are moving in opposite directions in terms of draft position. But, you know, it's still only February redsk1 02-05-2009, 01:49 PM I've asked this before w/o getting an answer: why couldn't Maualuga play OLB for a couple years before taking over for Fletcher? After all we originally drafted Blades as a MLB and whenever we need a guy to fill in, especially on the strong-side, he's our man. ... i'm not absolutely advocating Malauaga but saying if he's the very best talent left @ 13 (say all 4 1st round o tackles are gone or it comes down to Oher vs Malauaga vs Cushing) then we'd be wise to take him and let him play. After thinking about the possibility of drafting Rey Mal. i've come around a little bit. No we don't need a MLB. We need a pash rusher/DL/Ol. Think about some of the great pash rushers in todays game...Harrison, Woodley, Shawn Merriman, etc. Some play in the 4-3 granted, but his pass rushing skills might be beneficial. I don't know...just thinking out loud. If he falls, no doubt he's a great talent. I wish we had another 1st or a 2nd pick this year, b/c we need more than 1 good player. itvnetop 02-05-2009, 06:12 PM This may come to a shock to some, but Rey scares the heck out of me... I'm not talking about how he would probably knock me into next week. I watched his game in college every week and while he did improve on many of his weaknesses, I think some of them were covered up by the talent on the defense. He reminds me so much of another LB'er the Skins drafted top 3 a while ago... same career highlights, physical talent and hype... but similar known deficiencies that can kill your defense at the pro level. I hope I'm totally wrong, though. The Goat 02-05-2009, 11:36 PM This may come to a shock to some, but Rey scares the heck out of me...
