Could he be an option for the Patriots?

Darth Hoody does do a good job with aging players. Although I can see him in New Orleans too.

Springs is on ESPN980 now. He's making jokes about everything and seems to be in good spirits. he said he wasnt surprised by the move. I'll update this post with anything of consequence he says:

He is excited for the Redskins.
He spoke with Zorn, Gray, and Cerrato this morning and thanked them for the opportunity to play in his hometown.
Springs wants to win a superbowl. He saw former skins like Ryan Clark win superbowls and he wants the chance to be on a winning team.
He has 4-5 teams pursuing him right now. He was surprised so many were interested.
Doc thinks Springs is going to Philly. Springs says he knows one thing - he knows he's never going anywhere else again that doesnt put pressure on the QB.
Thinks the skins will be really good now. He says Andre Carter needs to step up and move back to RE. He thinks having Carlos, Hall, and Smoot in the secondary is really good for us.
Jerry Grey is a great coach because he doesnt sugar-coat things. He lays out a plan, tells players to execute, and makes them do it.
Doc says he can't stand it if Springs goes to Dallas. Springs tried to argue that they accepted Deon after he was in Washington so they should accept him if he goes to Dalls.
Springs jokingly said "ahright, i wont go to Dallas." Doc gave Springs permission to go to New York and Philly. Springs countered by saying Jason Campbell better hope he never plays against him because he knows the offense inside and out.
Springs ended the interview by saying he didnt want Doc and Frank to harrass him when they find out where he goes...

As always, Springs proved to be thoroughly entertaining. The dude seriously has a job on the radio after his playing career is up... but its not time for that just yet. I'm about 90% sure he'll be a Dallas Cowboy.

Why? SS was the better of the two, Hall is as good or better than Torrence, and had Torrence been kept Haynesworth may not have been an option.

I'm baffled by the logic in this response. Springs wasn't cut to make room on the roster for Haynesworth so I don't know why keeping Torrence would have any impact on optaining Haynesworth whatsoever. And Hall's being better than Torrence has nothing to do with the comparison between Springs and Torrence, so that's an irrelevant point.

When the Skins signed Hall, they needed to make room so they cut Torrence. They should have instead cut Springs since they were going to cut him anyway. Had they done that they'd currently have a great role player and locker room guy who came at a cheap price and could play a decent back-up corner with a lot of upside. Coaches always talked about how smart a player he was, and he was showing constant improvement.. That's the kind of player that good teams seem to keep and devleop into something special. Instead, the Skins cut him and disregarded what looked to be a promising future just so Shawn Springs could play five more games with the Redskins.

Clearly, in retrospect, it was a poor, shortsighted move.

Could he be an option for the Patriots?

I guess anything is possible. But most of the FA guys they pick up they do want on the field, as in they do there homework. Not standing around on the sidelines for half the season crying about not being 100% healthy. As I witnessed most other players fighting and playing through real injury, Springs wouldn't even try. The I can't go if I'm not 100% is crap!

Springs was a decent Skin for his first couple of years, solid CB. The last two I have been over his inability to play the game due to reasons such as I'm not 100%. It just appeared to me he sold old or gave up on the Skins. It was clearly time for Springs to hit the road and I'm glad they got rid of him.

Certainly this should be of no surprise to anyone.

Good luck in moving forward as long as your not playing the SKINS!

Springs is a good dude. We'll miss him. When healthy a top 10 cb. It's a move that's got to be done though.

So will it be Dockery, Willis, Brown, or Stinchcomb?

Any chance we can get two of them? (ie Dock and Willis/Stinchcomb or)

So long Springs... probably my least favorite player on defense.

Not so sure Springs is a realistic person. He was injured so much last year but thinks he can still be a top corner. I think he can be a good safety for a couple years but as a corner I'm so glad we don't have to deal w/ his risk anymore. Hope he does go do Dallas too cuz it makes it that much more likely we won't face a starter at CB when we play them...

For 2009, we would have been better off with Rogers/Springs/Smoot than with Rogers/Hall/Smoot, but this move makes sense for the future of the team.

However, the Haynesworth move makes sense for the present state of the team. As does keeping Jason Taylor. So I guess my question is, do we actually have a big picture plan? Are we doing everything we can to win in 2009, or beyond? Or are we just acting because we discovered we had some cap space?
