I don't recall McNabb playing the race card.

Really? Where u been his entire career? It comes out every now and then.

I continue to be astounded that one throwaway line out of the entire interview is being scrutinized and argued over, especially when his summary of the situation was simply that he knows he needs to deliver and doesn't care to make excuses.

Well you know, some people just wake up looking for a reason to be offended. After the way the o-line and the receivers played, JC probably couldn't figure out why they were trying to replace him instead of those guys. Can't say I blame him. I agree with you. His behavior, as always, has been exemplary. Why pick out one thing out of all the things he's said and crucify him for it unless you're just looking for something to bitch about? Whether I agree with him or not, I can understand how he came to feel that way.

I like your perspective dgack...

JC will make the leap this year. I thought/said so at the end of last season and despite all the crazy sh*t we saw I still believe that's what we'll see. Zorn took Matt to the pinnacle of his ability/talent/career. We'll see the same result w/ our QB, starting w/ a breakout in '09.

Even with the constant changes in the offensive system, and an aging o-line, and inconsistent play from the receiving corp, JC is doing exactly what he did in college and that is improve every year. Look at his completion percentage, touchdown to interception ratio, and the streak of passes without an interception. Sure he has more work to do, in particular, with that intangible where you have the confidence to effect the game when it matters most, but like anything else in life it has to be one step at a time. Tom Brady's career is exceptional. I remember some very tough years for a young Brett Favre and for both Mannings, and none of them had the adversities that JC has had. This guy has conducted himself on and off the field in a way that demands the benefit of the doubt. I can't wait to see if he can find "it".

This JC's season he will prove his our QB of the future.

Not following around McNabb. McNabb playing the race card or the media bringing up the subject?

I agree that McNabb plays for the critical Philly fan base. But there is more to it than that. National media and national fans must be considered, and in general these folks have not been as kind to McNabb as they could be. One must ask why. One also must ask exactly why the Philly folks have been so critical specifically of McNabb.

Some (certainly not all) fans and media members, both nationally and in Philly, bring racist attitudes towards the quarterback position. As we've seen in these pages, some of those racists lurk right here at the Warpath. Apparently, to some people, it is ok to have blacks do the grunt work but not ok to have them in positions of leadership.

The famous civil rights problems in Mississippi in the 1960's were not simply a result of the fact that Mississippi whites were grumpy. Similarly, criticism of McNabb does not arise simply because Philly folks are prone to boo Santa Claus. In both cases there is more to the story.

Black QB's and coaches have won Super Bowls. I'd say basically no one has an issue with a Mike Tomlin or a Tony Dungy running an NFL team. I'd say that's a position of leadership. And the very very few who do take issue with men of that caliber are too stupid for words.

I honestly don't think the Eagle fans' opinions on McNabb have much if anything to do with skin color. People care about wins a helluva lot more than race. McNabb has had injury problems, he throws at his WRs feet way too often, and in 5 NFC Championship games, he's lost 4. He's been really good, but just not quite good enough to win them a Lombardi Trophy. Philly fans as a whole are fickle, angry idiots. Blue collar jerks who are so thirsty for sports championships they'll boo and/or criticize anything. And they feed off each others' idiocy, snowballing into a fan base that comes off as pushy, ignorant, and overly abrasive. If the Eagles start this season 6-2 or 7-1 and McNabb looks good, they'll be praising him. A few bad games out of #5, and they'll trash him. City of Brotherly Love my ass.

From Thursday night's Sporting News Radio's The Monty Show:

"I gotta step in this year," Brennan said. "They've already made it clear that they're going to play me a ton in the preseason and we gotta play four very talented teams and talented defenses and that's going to be my test."

"Right now it seems like it's in everyone's hands," Brennan said. "For Jason Campbell it's his last year, it's in his hands to go out and earn that second contract and earn that for him. And for me in the preseason it's my chance to go out there for the second year and prove that I belong and have a great preseason and show that I belong and maybe could be a starter one day."

Looks like we're set on pushing Campbell from every angle. Seems like Colt is going to get plenty of chances in the preseason to swell the Cult of Colt to the point of explosion. Or shut them up. Either way, it will be interesting to see what he's got.
