Man, the curse of SI.

Blah blah blah.

I loved when Doug Williams had the cover in '88.

Lots of Skins have had the cover and didn't become Ryan Leaf or OJ Simpson.

Dexter Manley's in '87 with a closeup of his face in helmet, with the words "GET OUTTA MY WAY!" was one of the best.

JC isn't bringing it up, he's being asked about it in interviews and probably will all season until he's either outta here or has a new deal.

I think he's demonstrated that he handled it like a true pro and has moved on. That doesn't mean he needs to shy away from any questions about it.

Exactly. Having worked with low level media, you can even then notice that many articles and ideas are "pre-written". The questions asked are very leading and not un-bias. King most likely asked something to the extent of "Hey JC how terrible did it feel to be treated the way you were?"

This works both ways to. If the reports wants to get positive info he asks "It's great to see the young receivers improving, right?"

Take everything with a grain of salt from the media.

If you look at this negatively, you probably see that Jason Campbells future and honor are in question nationally. But if you look at it positively, you see Jason Campbell on the cover instead of Brett Favre or Michael Vick. Im not concerned with him. He should hope to put up slightly above than average stats. I'm not convinced he will after the mid-season nose dive.

Florio could not have possibly written this article...or could he???? "The REDSKINS chances are better than most people realize" HUH......this is a breaking news flash here!

Jason Campell takes charge
Posted by Mike Florio on August 5, 2009 4:12 PM ET
As he commences a season that was preceded by multiple attempts to bring in the man who would replace him, Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell is embracing his role as a team leader.

We're told that he's taking charge like never before in practice, yelling at teammates and grabbing them in the huddle, when the need arises.

And his attitude came through when Campbell spoke to the media on Wednesday.

"We all have to be focused," he said. "Being a leader of a football team, practice goes the way you come out here and participate. You play upbeat. I'm coming out here, we're having fun and guys are paying attention to detail. Of course we make mistakes out here at the same time, but there are things you do to correct it. It's all about how you bounce back and continue to move forward."

Campbell also has landed on the cover of the training-camp edition Sports Illustrated, next to the caption "Pressure Points And Pivotal Players."

In the last year of his rookie contract, Campbell is definitely under pressure. But he's also going to be pivotal to the Redskins' chances in 2009. (Maybe that's why they put his picture next to those words.)

So in a conference that's flatter than a runny pancake, we think the Redskins' chances are better than most people realize.

Yeah Florio was on some radio (maybe tv?) interview a few weeks ago and he said basically "Don't sleep on the Redskins"

Flacco was not asked to do a damn thing last year. And I think Baltimore's d-fense had a lot to do with them making the play offs. Excellent point, and 100% correct. There's a huge difference between Matt Ryan -- the first rookie quarterback to make a significant impact in recent memory, and Joe Flacco, who could have been ANYONE last year.

Flacco might very well improve. But age of the prospect aside, if you are given one quarterback between Flacco and Campbell to win over the next five years, Campbell is the proven one.

Ryan is a different story. He's unproven from a experience standpoint, but he was legitimately great last year.

Does anyone know if there is a way to order 1 issue of S.I? I live in Japan, and I don't think I can get a copy on base, much less somewhere off-base. I'd like to have this one for a while, I like JC, regaurdless how this year plays out.
