I figured you were already on those meds. Aren't all the mods?
How many of you have been diagnosed with ADHDFRPLG 08-12-2009, 03:33 PM I figured you were already on those meds. Aren't all the mods? SmootSmack 08-12-2009, 03:38 PM jeez good to hear you're ok Must have been scary Actually for the most part it wasn't just because I was pretty confident that I didn't have anything serious (beyond Tourette's Syndrome, which is more embarrassing than anything else) but there was a brief moment when I thought "Uh oh, what if they find something?" And I was a little nervous when I went to see my general doctor for what we both thought was going to be a nothing meeting "Doc, I've got these symptoms..." "Don't worry, you'll be fine." But that's not how it turned out. It was more "Doc, I've got these symptoms..." "You need to see a neurologist right away" But yeah I did have that passing fear of "I can't believe I might actually have brain cancer (or something along those lines)" Not a good thought to have JLee9718 08-12-2009, 03:47 PM I have 2 sons who were diagnosed as having ADHD. None of the meds worked; they just created other problems. Did it go away when they grew up? Nope. Doctors make me nervous, period. I was having heart palpitations earlier in the year. My Dr. sent me for all these tests, EKG, echocardiogram, stress test, etc. I was bugged out. Turns out everything was normal. Some blood pressure meds and losing 20lbs solved the problem. But for that time while I was waiting for the test results all I kept thinking was "man, do I have bad heart or something, WTF am I gonna do if these test results come back with bad news?" firstdown 08-12-2009, 04:06 PM I remember the first time a doctor made me real nervous. It was my first check up with my new DR. and it was also my first check up after turning 40. If you have had a check up after age 40 you know what I'm talking about. So I look at my new Dr. and he has hugh hands and it looks like he had broken his fingers 40 times as they where all swollen. I still walk funny. GhettoDogAllStars 08-12-2009, 04:07 PM No, never been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD. What is ADD? Is that when you can't quiet your mind? It just keeps rambling? Sounds like a byproduct of the ever-growing ego within our society. (if you've flamed me before for similar comments, best to just ignore this one and leave some flames for the others ;)) firstdown 08-12-2009, 04:18 PM No, never been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD. I personally was diagnosed when I was 5. I got a hold of the report when I was 16 and one of my favorite parts explained how I insisted on telling the therapist about my nightmares instead of doing the activity he had laid out for me. I don't hold with psychotherapy. If a kid has excess energy they put him on amphetamines? Great. Certainly speed focuses the mind but it leads to mood disorders, sleep disorders, sexual disorders. Yeah Adderol! hooskins 08-13-2009, 12:08 AM I think these drugs legitimately help some people. They are necessary and work. But I think there are a lot more people on them than really need them. The diagnosis becomes an excuse for poor behavior. Exactly. Well to an extent. Back in the day they were giving everyone ridilin(sp) for that, and it turned out to lead to suicide. I went to the doc. when I was in grade school I was told I had ADHD and "I would not succeed" without meds. My dad refused the meds. Fast forward, I ace high school, go to UVA, double major, working a nice job, etc. Not to brag, but the point being don't let people tell you NEED a medication to function. It is not always the case. Always get a second opinion before you start some serious meds, even if you trust your doctor. Also always consider safer alternatives. Hollistic, eastern medicine, even just sports. It may sound stupid but those things help a lot of the time. Also you won't kill your kidney and f up your brain. 70Chip 08-13-2009, 12:17 AM Exactly. Well to an extent. He's also extremely intelligent, etc. etc. Fortunately the former Mrs. 70 Chip is willing to keep him constantly on the go with sports leagues and books. The real problem, IMO, is that parents are so absorbed in their own activities that they don't want to be bothered with dealing with their kids. He's one of these kids that will turn flips on the bed till midnight. I took him to play 45 holes of golf. He was begging for sleep. |
