I'm gonna pull a Fred Smoot...... POINT BLANK: Do away with those FCKED UP OTHER TEAM avatars. This does happen to be a REDSKIN FAN forum!
They shouldn't be on a REDSKINS OFFICIAL OR UNOFFICIAL Team fan forum to begin with! Something I have never understood why the path let this happen!
Lets have a VOTE MODS.
Um yeah not the message we're looking to send out here at all. We talk NFL news and I think fans of other teams offer up a good perspective on things (even our rival fans at times).
SmootSmack 10-19-2009, 02:35 PM Wow dude. Just wow. I'm a Dolphins fan. I've been a Dolphins fan for the better part of 25 years. I'm also an NFL fan. I watch other games when my team isn't on. I follow the AFC East very closely because my team is in that division. I was turned on to this board something like 6 years ago by my boyfriend (a Redskins fan). I follow the Redskins (and by follow I mean watch/have an interest in) because my boyfriend is a fan. I liked this board because I found the discussions interesting. I liked this board because it was the first to post news about other teams (ie: the Ricky Williams debacle and Pennington going on IR). I liked this board because I saw the acceptance of a Dallas fan (I can't remember his name but I think SmootSmack or Matty might know who I'm referring to) who was respectful and capable of promoting discussion.
Did it ever occur to you that fans of other teams are capable of having NFL discussions regarding the Redskins?
When I first signed up for this board, I felt I received a warm welcome. There were questions of course as to why a Dolphins fan would come to a Redskins forum and I did my best to answer them.
Is the GTFO mentality of the above post what this forum has become? If that is truly the feeling of the members of the Warpath, then I am saddened by the degeneration of what I found to be an interesting site. I guess I'll have one less thing in my favorites.
I do wish you guys the best of luck. I do hope this franchise can turn things around. Most of all, I do know what it's like to feel the frustration of the downslide of a once proud franchise.
No it is not.
KLHJ2 10-19-2009, 02:54 PM Is this lamethetic?
Edit: When this post was made the poster was sporting a Raiders Avatar. The Raiders were selected because despite their crappy record they actually managed to beat the Eagles this week. The poster would have chosen the New Orleans Saints Avatar because they took out the Giants this week but he chose not to however because sporting a shitty team is just funnier in the opinion of the poster. The poster does not typically refer to himself in the 3rd person he just did not feel that writing the letter I would have done this explanation justice.
EARTHQUAKE2689 10-19-2009, 03:01 PM Is this lamethetic?
Nope, its Digorno.
GhettoDogAllStars 10-19-2009, 03:33 PM There was a blog posted earlier that made a great point: only in sports would patrons continue to support an establishment that never satisfies. It's like going back to the same restaurant over and over again, when they burn the entree every time.
I can totally understand people who want to root for other teams -- not because we're having a poor season -- because there is little hope given the current structure. In any other aspect of life, nobody would question such behavior -- only in sports is it unacceptable.
To me, a fairweather fan is somebody who is only interested in the team if they're winning -- regardless of anything else. A fan who has stood by the team in years of losing, and now realizes they don't want to support a defective philosophy is something COMPLETELY different. So, it comes down to your reasons. Fairweather fans only care about winning. Good fans know enough about the team, and football in general, to care more about philosophy than winning. If we had a great philosophy, but were still losing, there'd be no justification, IMO. But, we have no direction, no plan, no philosophy, and no hope until those things change.
It's also silly to me that people justify blind, unconditional support for the team based on the past. I will always love the Redskins because of their history. My love is unconditional, but my support is definitely conditional. Snyder has ruined this team, and although I still support them, that will not last forever unless some fundamental changes are made. Call me fairweather -- I call you a sheep and a chump. Keep making Danny rich, and never getting any satisfaction. Keep fanning the fire -- maybe it will get so big this organization will burn to the ground.
tryfuhl 10-19-2009, 06:34 PM Well if you people don't like it (not to say that I do) go ahead and switch teams, but stick with them through the thick and thin, not that you will, because you're not now.
DynamiteRave 10-19-2009, 11:55 PM Wow dude. Just wow. I'm a Dolphins fan. I've been a Dolphins fan for the better part of 25 years. I'm also an NFL fan. I watch other games when my team isn't on. Don't let a few bad eggs ruin the experience for you. I encourage you to stay and ignore the haters.
Most of Redskins fans aren't like that. It works in the same way as politics. There are the few good people on both sides, die-hard and lesser dedicated fans. Then there are the fringe fans, the haters who go batshit crazy if there are people who enjoy other teams and openly admit it and the people who jump on and off the bandwagon dependent upon how the team is performing.
Most people fall right in the middle though. Makes it a nice bell curve. :)
At least come back and troll sometime.

PLease disregard the Ninny factor...
AND I take issue with one thing you said. It is still a proud franchise with some re-thinking/changes to make!
Welcome and HTTR
Finslady 10-20-2009, 12:41 PM Thanks Matty, Smoot, DynamiteRave, and Hog1. I couldn't really believe that those sentiments were majority rule.
In any case, let me clarify my "once proud franchise" statement. I was speaking of the Dolphins. All these years, I sported my colors. (People seem to get the idea that girls like the Phins because of their colors....aqua and orange? really? My linemen look like pumpkins in those orange jerseys.) Let me tell you, I was proud. Proud of their history, coaches, players, owner, all of it. For the last decade or so (disregarding this year and last) I wasn't proud. I saw poor management, horrible coaches, godawful drafts and free agency, and disheartened players. Worst of all I saw fans, people I talked it up with, cheered with and shared disappointment with, turn. Turned to the Patriots! Ugh. :vomit:
I wasn't proud of any of that. But I watched every painful game, raged against so many bad moves and sat with my head in my hands for more games than I can count. I did it because it was my team, my marriage. For better or worse, right?
IMO that's what a true fan does. The Skins will improve, and let me tell you, stick with it because when it happens, it's one of the best feelings in the world.
Finslady,
as you can see, I live in S. Fl. Sooo, naturally I am surrounded by Dolpin coverage. In the offseason, I am glad to get it as....any football coverage beats none. I must say, the Fins are doing and have been doing some things I wish the Skins were. They have evaluated the talent they have and adapted the scheme for that. They have maximized what they can do.
THAT is what we need to start with and develope the future plans to migrate to some other scheme when possible.
Parcells is the right man for that job, and it shows.
