I don' want to trade Cooley but if there's someone I would trade for, it would be Cribbs and converting him to RB.

Josh Cribbs cleans out his locker room after 'low-ball offers' from Cleveland Browns - ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4806503)

The production we get out of Cooley i don't think it would match what Cribbs could do for us on a value standpoint to be a straight up trade.

He's a great special teams player, but I think we would be better off trading Cooley for a pick. We would be much better off developing a young guy. Plus it would be a lot cheaper.

When this thread was first started we hadn't had a chance to see what we had in Fred Davis. If the team is convinced Davis can improve on his development, a 1st & 3rd for Cooley where do I sign?

I'll take that trade, improbable as it is. I love Chris Cooley but a 1st and 3rd is a great trade. Fred Davis is going to be a Cooley clone in the next few years. With that extra pick IMO.

Pick #4 - Russell Okung or Sam Bradford
Extra 1st Pick - Mike Iupati or Trent Williams
Pick #36 - Jahvid Best or Charles Brown
Extra 3rd - Dan Lefevour or Toby Gerhart

That would be a lot of offensive help for the future which IMO outweighs having 2 good TEs with average/poor O-line.

I never thought i'd be saying this cuz Cooley embodies everything that I like about the Redskins, but in the end its a business and HELL YEA i'd trade him for a 1st and 3rd. After seeing how Davis played in his absence, the dropoff from him to Cooley is easily worth a 1st and 3rd rounder. Anyone who disagrees is just thinking with their heart and not their brain. It's a moot point cuz it'll never happen.

thanks i just read the article on ESPN. His contract is terrible! He is by far the best player on that team getting paid the least!

But there are 3 years remaining. I can see where the browns are coming from. Yes, he's been a great returner but he just started playing a lot of downs on o this year. If he played another year & put up decent #s he would be in a better bargaining position. I think he's trying to renegotiate too soon. The browns can ask a lot for him or just let him sit out.

Exactly, which is why I think this needs to be dropped. I'm sure the team will discuss this and shop him quietly, but I just don't see how the team could be better by trading Cooley. Kellen Winslow and Jeremy Shockey wanted to get out of their respective teams or were unhappy with them.

I don't think we'll get a 1st for Cooley, unless there's a team desperate for him. Cleveland got a 2nd and a 5th (2010) for Winslow, and the Giants got a 2nd and 4th for Shockey. The most we'd get for Cooley would be a 2nd and another pick.

I would trade cooley for a 2nd round pick right now. This team has needs to fill and could use another draft pick much more then excess depth at the TE position. I have a feeling when the redskins call though it will be Davis the teams want and not Cooley.

That said, I still believe Cooley is the steadier player today, and probably has 3-4 solid years before he declines due to advancing age. If we can get a 2nd round pick for Cooley, we would have to consider that.
