KLHJ2 10-21-2009, 10:57 AM I think that is a puff piece. We would be kidding ourselves to buy into it and actually believe that this guy is going to turn things around. I'm sorry, but I am not exactly going to be optimistic until I see something to be optimistic about. Words and puff pieces aren't going to do it for me any more.
Deep down inside I want this to be the fix, but I am not going to get my hopes up...again.
GMScud 10-21-2009, 12:41 PM The more I think about this the more I just have to laugh to keep from crying.
Lewis has been with the team for all of 2 weeks. There's no possible way he knows our personnel inside and out, knows this offense inside and out, and is going to be any sort of an improvement over Zorn as a play caller. We might as well put a monkey up the booth and let him throw darts at the playbook. In addition, Lewis was never known as a great play caller to begin with from his prior experiences. We're in trouble folks. Big trouble.
No quesiton about it. The fact that Snyderatto made this move is further evidence of their ignorance and denial.
Right now my long-term fandom is trumping my short-term fandom. With this season already lost (I don't care that there are 10 games left, we're done), I pretty much hope we fall completely on our face is downright ugly fashion. It hurts me to say such a thing. I think it's going to take the kind epic fail that we're in store for to open Danny's eyes. I hope it's already happening. I don't see how we can't possibly have sweeping organizational changes if we end up something like 3-13 or 4-12 (then again, with that little jerk running the teams, nothing surprises me anymore).
We're already a punch line, and this year, it's only going to get worse.
SmootSmack 10-21-2009, 01:11 PM I think it's unfortunate it's come to this for Lewis. One of the most respected assistant coaches of the 1990s and now he's simply being dismissed as a bingo caller. He, in my opinion, gave too much to both college and pro football to get that treatment. I hope he proves a lot of people wrong this Monday.

I agree he was very well respected in his day, but frankly I just don't understand why he came on board. He's pushing 70 and has been out of football for what, 4 or 5 years now? After coaching for so long I can't imagine he's hurting for money, and we're a total mess of an organization. Just seems really strange to me.
Also let's not forget, despite a shining resume as a non-playcalling assistant, his record when actually dialing up the plays is paltry at best.
Another head-scratcher by our front office.
SmootSmack 10-21-2009, 03:47 PM Doc Walker said he spoke to Snyder this morning for a little while. The usual stuff, very disappointed for the fans, knows it's on him ultimately. But the really interesting part was he basically said Snyder was asking Doc about Lewis, seems this really was all Cerrato and Snyder didn't have anything to do with it.

Good. Vinny's final nail.

So, YOUR calling Bingo, and the GM to the Skins gives you a shout. Yo' Sherm.....what up? You wanna' come by Redskin Park and we'll set you up to for some Quality Control, and maybe......you call the Eagle game on Monday night. What say?
YOU say no?

Calling bingo doesn't pay as much as Dan Snyder does to call plays. He may not be hurting for the money, but I'm sure that he won't mind taking it. Besides, the older you get the more you want to prove that you still got it.
DBUCHANON101 10-21-2009, 04:00 PM I think DS cleans house after the season.. but ill give the guy a chance and see how it goes. we couldnt score vs one of the worst defense in the league so i guess he couldnt do any worse.

Granted, this is likely to be a disaster but you must recall we all went into last season with all our eggs in the basket of a man who had never called pays of any type on any level. He went 6-2 and everyone was singing his praises, then the bottom fell out. I certainly don't look for Sherm Lewis to be our savior by any stretch of the imagination, but he has been there, done that, and that's more than we can say for the man currently running the show.
