Baucus isn't drunk here. He's a tool DINO (Democrat in Name Only) and slave to the health insurance lobby like over half of our senators. But anyway he's a horrible, horrible speaker, not comfortable at all on camera or in front of a crowd. This is basically the way he speaks although he's obviously exhausted.

The funny thing is for a very long time he was the "eloquent" senator for mont. Conrad Burns sounded mentally retarded every time he opened his mouth. In his losing bid for reelection I went to a live debate and heard people constantly asking each other what he said because he just spoke nonsense.

My point was that since we allow congress to keep running for life, why not let the president do the same. The argument against having a president run for life is because he would lose touch with the people of the country.

Do you think that congress is in touch with the country first, or the lobbyist?

Gotcha...I think our politicans are almost completely out of touch...or at least don't operate in a way that most responsible Americans do. And I mean like of the 535 we've got maybe 10 I'd trust as a mechanic. No kidding. I just don't think the issue is the terms necessarily. I think that is PART of the problem. But the solution to the term issue MAY cause worse issues. Maybe not though. My whole point is that term limits sound great but they'll very likely have unitended consequences. Politics is a game and term limits would just be a rule change that all the players would adjust to. Trust me the lobby industry isn't shutting down any time soon absent someone going Dexter on them.

FRPLG, what do you think of the idea of restricting national elections to public funding only? Ban all contributions and disperse matching federal funds to whichever candidate each party selects. Not only is this not going to happen, it would probably require a constitutional amendment were it to actually gain any momentum in the future. Nevertheless, that's the only solution I can come up with to fix a system with problems as endemic as ours.

I think it another magic unicorn unless it is exactly how you describe. They'll figure ways around it unless it is made law that they get no money except from the one very administered source. But then how do you stop service contributions? Or the Parties doing all the campaigning? Sounds like alogistical nightmare but at this point it can't be wrose I guess. If you can't tell I am very "the system is broken" type. I have less of a problem with individual politicians than I do with the system in general. There's a reason no one else in the world has our form of government. I have very little confidence that the two party system can "succeed" in the way that most Americans envision their gov't working.

That's because the liberal mainstream media is ignoring the truth.
The truth that he's drunk? He doesn't even sound halfway drunk to me, just slightly heated.

More propagandist BS -- the longer we split people by party line the longer this will go on. If you're not trying to work with the other party instead of oppose them you're part of the problem.. and that transcends parties and ideologies.

"Democrats never do anything proactive, they just whine..."

Well here you have the opposite; I'm mostly conservative in my views but a lot of people that vote Republican make us look like wackjobs and are extremely hypocritical. Social programs aren't necessarily a bad thing, it's the lack of oversight; we're not going to become the USSR reincarnate.

Yet when Cheney cursed on the floor it was a big story.
Did Baucus curse? I listened to the whole video but don't recall it.

Have you ever watched C-SPAN or coverage of a floor debate or argument? Is this type of speech new to you?

Neo-conservatives have to be the biggest sheep ever. Well, I don't know, but this guy seems like he does.. so I agree!!!!!

huh?

You actually think a Senator delivering a speech while drunk isn't as bad as the VP cursing privately on the floor and it accidentally getting picked up by a microphone? That's cool.

I don't know if he was drunk or not but he sure sounded like it to me. And yes I have watched plenty of floor coverage...both the Senate and the House. I don't give a rat's ass what he was saying but doing it inebriated seems pretty damn reckless, irresponsible and disrespectful to me. Democrat or Republican doesn't matter, if he was drunk he should be brought up on ethics charges.

So if one disagrees with a bill they should just go along so they are not part of the problem? That makes no sense and then every bill ever introduced would get passed.
