jsarno 03-20-2010, 12:02 AM If you honestly have more faith in Brennan than Grossman at this point I want to know who signs your prescriptions.
Grossman does have more upside than Collins. Collins' career is trending down if it isn't over. Grossman is working for another opportunity.
Did Grossman screw up one of your fantasy teams or something? (He did that to one of mine)
LOL, no. It's not that I have more faith in Brennan over Grossman, it's that Grossman had his shot and did nothing to deserve another one. Colt has never had a shot and he deserves one. Like I said, I agreed with letting Collins go, but why sign a guy that has had his shot and didn't perform well in doing it?
Here is my problem, I can totally get on board with "rebuilding" and allowing a couple young guys (ie: colt and bradford for instance) duke it out when campbell fails, but I can not agree with going into this season with an inconsistant Campbell under center and the guy backing him up being a lot worse with no real upside unless you consider hope an upside. I'd rather pin my hopes on "potential" than just settling for a guy that isn't going anywhere.

I view this year as a transition year with potential. No one will argue that Campbell isn't inconsistent, but if he had a Pro-Bowl consideration type season next year would anyone really be shocked? I wouldn't, he was in the MVP consideration after we were 6-2.
As far as Grossman, I think he has potential too. Especially since he is going to be in the system that he was in last year. If he beat out Campbell, I wouldn't be surprised. In fact, it could be argued that Grossman actually has a leg up right now. Give them the benefit of the doubt, I guarantee Kyle S. had a lot to do with that signing.
I would much rather have Rex over Collins. Colt isn't out of the picture yet. He may have to beat someone out, but he will get a chance.

It would surprise me to see him the MVP race. A lot actually. Anyone can play well for a stretch, but for a whole season??? It's too hard to perform well all season long, only the really good can do that, and Campbell is not really good. Campbell would be a decent back up IMO.

I can respect the opinion that Grossman has potential, I just don't agree.

I just don't want either of them.

Well, if we sign Bradford, there is no room for Colt.

I don't think Campbell will be in the MVP race. I was just saying that people were saying that a couple of years ago (Jaworski specifically). But I wouldn't be surprised if Campbell approached Pro-Bowl numbers, assuming the pieces fit together on the O-line.
You are right, if we sign Bradford (or Clausen) it would take a miracle or injury for Colt to make the team.
I was wondering if Shanahan normally keeps 3 QBs? It may already be over for Colt...

Nice post. Grossman can't be written off yet for a couple reasons. Chicago had exactly what great offensive weapons when Grossman was the starter? Let's be honest they won on their defense and then had a very amazing special teams unit. Grossman had an above average running game to rely on typically and very little talent to work w/ otherwise. He forced things way too often, and when you force things you see more turnovers. Certainly he's flat stunk in stretches, but let's not pretend like he had a lot to work w/ when he was on the field.
I hope it's not the case Shanny has already decided one way or another on Colt Brennan. Of the three QBs on the roster my intuition is he has the most upside...like he was quoted saying recently it's gonna take someone at this level giving him the kind of shot he got in Hawaii.

I'm not going to comment on it, but it might be an interesting read for this thread...

Well, he finally woke up and smelled the flowers. Maybe he can now actually challenge Collins, who was the best QB on the roster, oh wait...
Well, we've got a few months before the fireworks fly.
DBUCHANON101 03-20-2010, 02:28 PM Either way, Colt is playing for his career right now. Either he shows something to Shanny and he keeps him around or he gets cut and another team picks him up.
DBUCHANON101 03-20-2010, 02:32 PM Im just glad to hear the kid is taking it serious and trying to better himself so he can go all out. He's 100% healthy now so its all or nothing.
takethecake 03-20-2010, 08:56 PM Yeah, regardless of what the team's plans are for colt, its always good to see effort and dedication from the guys on your roster.
