Ratings mean almost nothing to Sesame Street and PBS. Ratings only matter for ad-supported TV and customer-subscription TV. Unless SS was about to get shut down for a complete lack of interest they can't be even remotely mistaken for doing something for ratings. In fact doing something like this can be reasonably construed as bone-headed since they are supported by charitable funds which they put at serious risk by casting a questionable shadow over the content. In other words, nobody is sending more donations to PBS for being on the show but there are probably people who aren't sending in donations because of this. What they try to be is "relevant".

I think they did it to keep up with Yo Gaba Gaba, how routinely has on celebrities.

The Jack Black one being one of the best episodes.

I'm glad I have no idea what Yo Gaba Gaba is, though I'm sure some day I will know all too well.

2 to 4 yr old kids care about celebrities appearing on their shows? Hell I bet if you asked them who Katy Perry was none would even know. Most probably can't even say her name. Its for the dads.

Why would Sesame Street invite a whore on the show anyways? They knew what they were getting.

As a father of a 2-YO, I don't want her on SS either.

I did enjoy when the First Lady was on though:

Just curious what makes Katy Perry a whore???

You gotta remember, this is Sesame Street. Purely for little kids. While we, as adults, may think what Katy Perry was wearing was tame for us, we have to decide what we are going to expose our little children to. What is tame for us might not be so tame for the children. Don't get me wrong, I love looking at Katy Perry (California Gurls video with her naked on the cloud..yum yum!) But, I wouldn't want her on a children's show showing cleavage or wearing a very short skirt. I just think it is inappropriate for Sesame Street.

Like some 2 or 3 yr old kid is going to see her and get his first woody. At their age this is a Woody.

Anyone else see the irony with a "Woody" coming with a choking hazard??

WE LOVE YO GABBA GABBA. Muno the cyclops is awesome (you may know him from the Kia Super Bowl commercial)

Their celebrities, including Jack Black, are fully covered.

While their are Disney actresses who act like strippers...they do it on their own time, not on Disney shows. They're pretty innocent on that network, on the actual shows.

Sesame Street is for an even younger audience, and what Perry is wearing on these images is very inappropriate for that viewing audience and the show in general.

Glad they wised up and pulled it before airing it, but it's still a bit troubling they considered her in the first place.

Did you see what some of the parents said?

These parents are more out of line than her damn clothing is. Just as someone said in the comments:

I bet most of those immature comments are from teens and non-parents.

The ones in the TMZ comments are definitely teens or younger people, but those three posted were actual comments from parents.
