GMScud 12-14-2010, 10:29 PM I got my wife a IRobot vacuum (roomba) for the carpets and an IRobot mop (scooba) for the hardwood floor. I hear they don't do the best job in the world but good enough to hold you off from vacuuming and mopping the old fashioned way for a good week or two. Right now with a puppy and two young kids at home the floors are constantly a wreck, she vacuums/sweeps/mops at least once a day.
And I want to see the dog react to the robot. That's got to be hilarious.
I put in a request for a sound dock for my IPod. This Sony one (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6311131&csid=_21) has wireless speakers, which definitely appeals. Sounded pretty good to me in the store.
My buddy has that Ipod dock. It's solid, but the Bose dock is sick. I was pleasantly surprised last year when my mom and stepdad sprung this one (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=ipod+bose+sounddock&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=15394813788850164398&ei=1zUITfjNI4W0lQfAmKT-AQ&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDcQ8wIwAA#)on me. It's unreal. Close your eyes when it's on and you'd swear it was a huge sound system.
Bose is seriously overrated for the price, there are less expensive options that sound just as good, if not better
GMScud 12-14-2010, 10:38 PM My wife and I decided this year that rather than spend a bunch of money buying gifts to exchange, we're going to jointly spend the money on some upgrades to our place. A new TV stand, dining room table, and bedroom set are going to be our X-mas gifts to each other.
She and her twin sister have their birthday on the 23rd (Thursday), so I've got some stuff lined up for them. The wife wants a gift card to Victoria's Secret and a pair of running shoes (easy enough) and my sis-in-law is a total tech geek, so she's easy to please with a quick trip to Best Buy.
All I asked for is a few Blu-Rays and a new beard-trimmer (love sporting the scruff during winter). I bought two new TV's and a new car this year, so I'm more focused on giving this holiday season.

Could be the case, but I have Bose in my car and home, and I think it sounds pretty great. That iPod sound dock is the size of a piece of notebook paper, and it really pumps out some serious music. Anyway, I didn't pay for it, so it's whatever. Works just fine.
As far as my car, I pay a few bucks a month extra for the Bose premium audio package, and it thumps. Real nice, clean solid lows, mids, and highs. I test drove the Altima without the Bose, and believe me, the upgrade is well worth the $8/month increase in payment.
Don't get me wrong I think the Sounddock sounds great, it's just a little overpriced and you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere. But if someone bought me one, I wouldn't complain.
Schneed10 12-14-2010, 11:02 PM Best Buy has the Bose one and a few others. I tested them by closing my eyes and having my wife push the buttons to start them up. A few of them (priced at like $75) are crappy. But once I got up to the Bose, the Sony one I linked, and another one, I couldn't tell the difference.
Maybe Bose is right with their research creating amazing sound, but if it really is better my ear isn't capable of telling the difference. I guess some people can, but not me. So I figured go with the Sony, it's cheaper.

Hmmm, how much is the Bose upgrade total? I got my whip hooked up for the first time ever through a car audio joint earlier this year. Even if that upgrade is no more than $500, you can get a decent amp and a couple pairs of two-ways that would cost around that with installation. I'd guarantee it'd sound much better than Bose. After you pay your car off and you're interested in that kind of stuff, start looking into brands like Rockford Fosgate, Boston, Infinity and JL.
mredskins 12-15-2010, 08:31 AM Bose are good but I rather have Polk any day when it comes to home theater.
Back in the day when I worked in Marriott sales , Bose was one of my clients. they built their own mountain to place their headquarters on top in Framingham Mass. It is so sick! They have all these different demo rooms set up and stuff.

mredskins 12-15-2010, 08:34 AM continuing with the Bose theme....
Bose does highs very well, their mid-range bass is ok and their sub bass is god awful. I am sorry you can't ask a 5 inch sub and try to create mid bass and sub bass all at the same time and expect it to sound good, it is impossible.
firstdown 12-15-2010, 10:29 AM You guys are all eltectronics while I'm off a bit.
Chain saw
clothes for work
fishing gear
I just got the new HD TV and a ping pong table
I've asked for several wood working tools so I'm not sure what I'll get.
The wife is easy as I have her tell me what she wants over the year and I keep good notes and I also let her pick out a couple hundred $ worth of clothes.
