We never should have let the great Rich Bartel go. Or your boy Chase, for that matter. Maybe we'll get someone like Devlin once FA starts.

Or Jimmy Clausen... :)Don't throw in the towel yet on Clausen, he was in a pretty bad situation last year. He's undervalued now and could likely be brought in for a late round pick in 2012 (or maybe AH...j/k)I'd be happy to see Clausen in B & G with a year to sit behind Grossman/Beck.

Mallett's character red-flags were obviously pretty serious. Serious enough that a top 10 talent fell into the 3rd round. So even if he wasn't an alleged coke-head, what is it about a 6'7" statue of a QB that fits Mike/Kyle Shanahan's offense?

There must have been some pretty BAD red flags. Someone on one of the Networks was talking about how coaches would send him to the board and try to tire him out and they just couldn't do it. Apparently Mallet loves football as much as he allegedly loves to party.

I give our overall draft a B.

Trading down for extra picks - A+

Kerrigan - I'm warming to the pick because of the strength of our front 4 pass rush in nickel/dime situations. I would've went with Cam Jordan though. B

Jenkins instead of Paea - D

Hankerson in the 3rd - A

Helu in the 4th instead of Ballard - C-

Gomes instead of an interior OL that fits our scheme like Vandervelde, or a versatile G/T like Demarcus Love. - D

Royster - C
Robinson - B
Thompson - B
Hurt - B
White - C
Neild - B+
Niles Paul - B

Who knows how truthful Shanahan is being. And VY is mobile and has a very strong arm, he would fit in just fine

Physically he would fit fine. From a mental and emotional standpoint, there lies the huge problems.

I'm still concerned about our O-line... I trust Shanny, but is Rabach still our starting center? He is turning 34 this season. Or is it Licht/Will Montgomery? Can Cook ever break the active roster? And Jamaal Brown - he's a free agent and probably wants a left tackle contract/money. I hope he stays, but if he leaves we're really screwed.

Just saying - our O-line has moving parts as always, and seems as unstable as usual. Would've like to see a few O-line drafted every year.

Well, let me clarify. Do I know if guys like Lichtensteiger, Cook, Capers, even Trent Williams will become the answer(s) along the OL?

No, but at least we have youth to work with and develop along the line. We don't have that at QB

First off, the FO did a great job in acquiring picks and I loved the philosophy. I think the last 4 picks were arguable the best at a value standpoint outside of Hankerson. I didnt like the WR and CB/S picks from Nebraska...I think much much better picks out there at that point.

I think this draft was the most surprising and intriguing not only from the Skins viewpoint which it certainly was, but in general leaguewide. Its because of the lockout and no free agency...but wow, very interesting. Alot of stuff just didnt make sense ie all those 3rd and 4th round QB going in the 1st and 2nd. The second round was just insane to me...a ton of effing reaches by alot of teams.

2 surprises from the Skins:
1. No QB taken (which I thought was brillant)
2. No prominent NT or ILB picks. Ive mention NT perspective in a couple threads, but think for a second about ILB...Rocky is NOT coming back and London is still effective, but is getting up there. Is this a free agency fill? I tend to think not, much more other needs. So are we going with Riley, Henson or One Man Gang next to London? I think(hope) so, but Id woulda thought a middle round pick woulda been spent there to add another piece for competition.

I think the grade is a B, kudos to the FO

I think they're high on Riley and Blades has been waiting around for a while. I'd prefer those two and let Fletch move on.

I haven't sifted through all of this thread yet but here is my initial analysis:

Good to see the front office acknowledge that this team is more than just a player or two away. Moving back multiple times to pick up extra picks was absolutely the way to go in this draft. We need players at pretty much every position so to add 12 rookies to the mix is great to see.

I love that in the scouting profiles I'm reading about these guys some common traits keep jumping off the page. Things like hard worker, passion for the game, leader, high character, etc. So not only are we restocking the team with much needed youth and adding competition at key spots, we've placed an emphasis on character and guys that are going to work their tails off whether it's on the field or off. More than anything that's what I really loved about our draft. Hopefully in a few years we can look back on this draft and see it as a crucial turning point in the building of a winner.

Blades is horrible. Riley and Henson probably are the front runners...Greg Jones ILB from Mich St woulda been a nice pick to add to the mix

I agree with what you said about the common personal traits of our draftees. I would also add to that that I noticed a common thread of good production and improvement over at least two years on their college teams. That constitutes a certain amount of proof that they will work hard, in my opinion.

I also noticed that the defensive players who were drafted have shown the ability to be disruptive. There were a lot of TFL's and forced fumbles caused by this group. I think that is an indication of the type of defense the Redskins want to build.

I think that this was a well thought out and researched draft by the Redskins in terms of the personal traits and football skills that they wanted to add to their roster. As an aside, I can't believe that I actually typed the previous sentence after all these miserable years.
