You make some nice points SS . I hope he does alot of good with that $$$ , maybe help homeless/ rescue shelters ( Human and Animal ) I guess we will see what kind of man he is over the next few years .
I imagine most of the money will go to pay off his enormous debts.

Just not sure what the rush was to lock him up. If I were the Eagles I would have made him prove himself another season. Prove he can stay healthy over 16 games, and not fade out after a hot start.
Funny. I said the same thing about Laron Laundry. :cheeky-sm

LL doesn't have the injury history Vick does, apples and oranges too as LL isn't going to get this kind of money.
But given the fact LL is still iffy health wise, I would wait. I would have waited til midseason at the earliest anyway.

#Notmakingitrain: 40% of Mike Vick's massive contract goes to creditors & has to follow court-ordered budget until 2015 es.pn/fLwHcB
Interesting article in the link, Michael Vick's MVP-caliber season looks even better in light of off-field distractions he faces from his bankruptcy status, and a look at Anheuser-Busch's lawsuit against MLB - ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/commentary/news/story?page=munson/101202). As always, you might notice that the lawyers are the ones making a ton off of Vick.

I was in grad school at VT when Vick had his magical year & our Hokies lost to FSU in the nat'l title, so a part of me is always pulling for him. Now he's w/the iggles so I can only root for him so much.
He's been almost as injury prone his whole career as he has been exciting. I think he peaked last year, and he also did that w/virtually no expectations. This year it's all on him & his team to win it all.
In his second year as starter in college, he was a SI cover boy in preseason. He hurt his ankle & couldn't go full strength v. Miami, and that was the team's only loss. I would be shocked if he's not hurt at some point in the season & misses some games. It really is a question of when.

was he overpaid? yes. Woulda just about any contract numbers made us say he is overpaid? yes. Do i really care what Vick makes? no

I think the contract ties the eagles into a long term deal with an injury waiting to happen...I am more than just okay with that!

Good for him. Glad he's turned his life around. He earned the raise. But I will never forgive what he did. Ever.

Lest we forget that the NFL is an entertainment industry. Vick, love him or hate him, is a dynamic player who attracts viewers for and against him. A game with Vick in it, is a game that more people will watch, which in turns drives ratings, memorabilia sales, jersey sales, attendance, etc. His Q-factor is worth the $100M and Jeff Lurie knows this as well as anyone, as does Goodell, who certainly went out of his way to give Vick a leg up back into the league.
The NFL is a business, and Vick is a money maker regardless of whether he wins you the game. He earned his contract... maybe not purely based on "field-performance" but he earned it no doubt.

Wasn't Vick about to become an UFA after this season? If so, I guess the Eagles did not want Vick on the open market?
Since the Eagles traded DM and Kolb away, they essentially put all of their eggs in one basket. I believe they have not yet drafted the heir apparent. Vince Young is a huge gamble that may or may not pay off, but they do not have anyone else at that position. When it comes to Qb's the Eagles seem to have the old Joe Gibbs I ability to take almost any QB and have them be productive.
I agree that they paid too much guaranteed money for a 30+ QB.
