The Goat 11-14-2011, 02:21 AM NFL Standings: League (http://www.nfl.com/standings?category=league&season=2011-REG&split=Overall)
Looking at the standings right now and remaining schedules I do think we'll end up with the 2nd or 3rd overall pick, which to a degree sucks because two team(s) picking ahead of us i.e. Colts and possibly Dolphins will draft Luck.
NC_Skins 11-14-2011, 09:35 AM Could have drafted Ponder, Mallet, or maybe even Dalton. Hasslebeck and Palmer were there. A nice deal for Palmer would not have been so bad, although I wouldn't do it if I was a GM. The going to two QBs was also a dumb move, due to the history of both Beck and Grossman. Clemens could have been the one to surprise us all and we let him go.
You want a oft injured mid thirty year old QB behind the OL we currently have?...lol Right now, he's behind a solid offensive line and Chris Johnson in the back field. Notice he wasn't doing diddly squat in Seattle.
Palmer? Are you kidding me? I'm not even going to really address this because it is so ludicrous.
Ponder? Was considered a HUGE reach by the Vikings. Mallet? You serious? Dalton? Picked ahead of us in the 2nd round, and wasn't worthy of a high first round slot based on his evaluation.
So again, what QBs from the magical tree should Shanny have plucked from without mortgaging the future (again) and going for a huge reach just because they are a QB?
tc2deuce 11-14-2011, 09:51 AM Minus the interior lineman, compare and contrast the 9ers vs Skins....one team has only lost one game! I am slowly leaning to the "Shanny is washed up" side.

As terrible as our QB situation is, I tend to agree with you. I have no real qualms with this draft class as constituted. The only thing I would have liked to have seen in either the 2010 or 2011 draft was picking a developmental QB in rounds 4-7. I don't see any of the late picks we made in those rounds truly being an impact player for us so we could have been developing a QB to be no worse than a backup for the future.
I wasn't wowed by any of the rookie QB coming out other than Newton. Where we picked, I've got no issue passing on Gabbert, we didn't have a chance at Dalton in the 2nd round, there's no indication Mallett will be anything yet and we were smart in building through this draft and adding picks next year rather than trading picks to move up and around for a QB in the late 1st or 2nd.
Neither Beck or Rex will be on the team in 2012, I think we're going to draft a QB in the top 5 next year and add a free agent QB. I kinda wish we had added Matt Lienart in free agency to see if there was anything there but he may just be a lefty Beck.

Look at the 5 year draft history of the two teams and then re-post. The Niners/Redskins comparison is a poor one. Remember, the Niners were expected to win the NFC West last year but Singletary was such a terrible coach they had no chance. There is a HUGE talent gap between the two teams.

Agree. Whats interesting is eveyone is talking about the suck for luck sweepstakes, but Carolina, St. Louis, and Minnesota are in there own race to get Justin Blackmon. The guy is gonna be a stud and maybe the 2nd best overall prospect just behind Luck.

Matt didn't want to come here. He decided to stay with Houston.
Also, either Beck or Grossman will be on the roster next year. No way Shanny is going to have a roster full of QBs that have 0 experience with the system. Grossman or Beck will start until the rook is ready.
CrustyRedskin 11-14-2011, 10:09 AM My bad i had this in the wrong thread.
Kyle S: “Daddy why can’t we win a game”
Daddy S: “Cause I’m a washed up old coach, and I’ve built a pile of crap for a team”.
Kyle S: “Daddy what’s a Mormon ,Moron, and MF’er cause the team keeps calling me and my quarterbacks those names and it makes us mad.”
Daddy S: “Beck is the Mormon, you and Beck are the other two, it’l be ok they’re cool nicknames, I get called those all the time too.”
Kyle S: “Daddy did you see what those Cowboys did the Bills, Daddy we didn’t even score on those guys, I’m skeerd ,what are we gona do”
Daddy S: “Shut the hell up and let me think for a minute, and go get me a Diablo samich and a Dr. Pepper and some hush puppies for Mr. Snyder”
SirClintonPortis 11-14-2011, 10:26 AM Hasselbeck would be better than Brecks, but at the same time, it's ultimately up to him where he wants to go. Tennessee gave him a 6 million dollar contract(on average). We might have had to sweeten the pot and offer substantially more money in order to sway him to come here. We certainly would have had to match the length of the contract(3 years), and that might not be too desirable for an aging QB.

SmootSmack 11-14-2011, 10:52 AM Hassleback has played in a west coast offense before once under Mike Holmgren. He currently has a 90.0 QB rating. Compare how he's playing now to how Rex Grossman and John Beck are playing. Hasselback is also a proven veteran that has guided the Seahawks to the playoffs a few times and went to one Super Bowl.
The Redskins could have signed Matt Hasselback. If Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen signed this guy instead of going along with the comic relief notion that John Beck and Rex Grossman could actually play QB good enough to have a winning record, the Redskins would be at the very least be 5-4 right now. By the way, the Tennessee Titans, the team that Hasselback currently plays for, is 5-4 and very much in the hunt for a AFC wild card birth.
I like Hasselbeck, but I don't see how adding a 36 year old QB to this team makes sense. Only if Rex had gone elsewhere, I suppose. Maybe we sign Hasselbeck and we don't add young linemen in Chester and Bowen? Does that really help us?
I mean I think the problem is you're talking about how we'd do this year. Sure we'd be 5-4 maybe. But so what? Is that what we're aiming for. Another .500 record with a QB on his last legs? Titans have Locker (heck even Rusty Smith) on the roster behind Hasselbeck. So in a year or two when Hasselbeck is ready to hang up his cleats they have QBs ready. We don't. So yeah we could have added Hasselbeck for a quick fix, but that doesn't really solve our problem.
