What Are You Reading?lockeroomman 06-05-2012, 09:22 AM i'm reading CASTAWAY .that's an really great book i've ever seen. Jak101 06-14-2012, 01:55 PM I'm rereading some of my favorite Kurt Vonnegut books right now: Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse Five. Amazing stuff. skinsfaninok 07-01-2012, 11:24 PM I usually don't read much but I'm starting the "secrets to success " by eric Thomas, I've seen his speeches and I was hooked. I'm sure the book will be great mooby 07-02-2012, 09:56 AM Amazon.com: 182 Days in Iraq (9781595711359): Phil Kiver: Books (http://www.amazon.com/182-Days-Iraq-Phil-Kiver/dp/159571135X/ref=pd_ybh_3) I read about halfway through this book that I found at a small thrift store before I realized I didn't like the author at all. Personally I felt like this book was garbage, and the author (though honest) really doesn't have any business writing a book at all, even if the book is just a collection of his daily blog posts. He talks about how as a journalist in the Army, he spent most of his days poolside at Saddam's former palace in the Green Zone, and he's also very critical of those around him and you can tell he really thinks highly of himself. It might be a honest account of what his time in Iraq was like, but I'd much rather read authentic war stories about the sacrifices soldiers had to make instead of reading about a "journalist" drinking and catching a tan while he's at "war." According to the 1 star reviews on Amazon (a couple written by soldiers who actually knew him apparently) he went to Iraq as a Specialist, got demoted to PFC while he was there, and then left the Army as a Private later. If that is true I would not be suprised. Either way, don't waste your money on this book. So far it's a facinating to me, but leads to more questions and further though. That's a good thing and fairly enjoyable (to me) though. mlmpetert 08-06-2012, 12:10 PM * I didnt want to bump the old spygate thread, but mods please do so if you think thats the more appropriate place. I heard this interview with steve Czaban this morning: Bryan O’Leary – Spygate the Untold Story | Yahoo Sports Radio (http://www.yahoosportsradio.com/nfl/bryan-oleary-spygate-the-untold-story-31100/) I never really thought too much about SpyGate, it just seemed that it wasnt all that impactful to the Patriots' success. I think this book is supposed to challenge that notion and also call into question if the NFL made a hard push to bury the matter (or certain aspects of it) as much as possible. The interview is worth listening to, and the book definitely sounds interesting. Im not a big book reader but some of you might find it worth checking out. And im almost done with the Sniper Team 6 by Wasdin book suggested here which has been entertaining as well. Do you know if the term "useful idiots" was coined in this book or somewhere else? Was the term even in the book? Ive been wanting to check this book out: ‘The Little Blue Book’: Secrets From the Radical New Book that Van Jones & George Soros Just Love | George Lakoff and Elizabeth Wehling | TheBlaze.com (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/the-little-blue-book-secrets-from-the-radical-new-book-that-van-jones-george-soros-just-love/) Monkeydad 08-06-2012, 01:28 PM Finished Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals last month...very interesting. Good to know some still care to be educated. :D Chico23231 08-31-2012, 08:17 AM Pentagon warns former SEAL about bin Laden book - CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/30/world/asia/us-seal-book-bin-laden/index.html?hpt=hp_t3) Anybody gonna read this money-grab book by this guy? Hope he understands he could be putting soldiers in harms way in the future if he gives up tactical and strategy info. Eff it, its more important for this guy to get rich. Gotta admit im interested, but will pass. Anybody reading anything good lately? mooby 08-31-2012, 09:59 AM Amazon.com: Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 (9780316044691): Marcus Luttrell, Patrick Robinson: Books (http://www.amazon.com/Lone-Survivor-Eyewitness-Account-Operation/dp/0316044695/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1346421450&sr=8-3&keywords=marcus+luttrell) Just read that book the other day, it was a very good read about a Seal who's entire team got wiped out in Afghanistan (and the backup squad that was sent had their helicopter shot down as well) and how he had to survive in a Taliban stronghold for around 5 days. He managed to survive because a local Pashtun tribe took him in and cared for him before they were able to arrange for the US to get him. |
