Curiosity's Seven Minutes of Terror - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISmWAyQxqqs&sns=fb)In a more perfect world, this would get more network hype and coverage than the Olympics.

If it goes wrong for us I'm sure we'll get all the press we can handle.

In a more perfect world, this would get more network hype and coverage than the Olympics.

Why would this get more coverage than an event which strives to show unity and competition across the globe? Or more than an event which shows humans of all ethnicities pushing themselves to the extremes of human endurance?

Don't get me wrong, it's quite the fascinating piece of technology. Just don't get why it deserves more hype and coverage than the Olympics.

Could LSD push the brains of our brightest scientists and thinkers to a higher level? The Morning News (http://www.themorningnews.org/article/the-heretic?src=longreads) on the government funded institute which, right before it was shut down, demonstrated just this:

For decades, the U.S. government banned medical studies of the effects of LSD. But for one longtime, elite researcher, the promise of mind-blowing revelations was just too tempting.

I'm not a big fan of casual drug use of any sort but this is an interesting article.

Very interesting, logical approach to psychodelics. Micro dosing is really interesting, but you would have to be extremely careful.

Yeah, I'm not and I have a fairly cavalier approach to life so I'm not the best person for this. Just glad their are more sensible people doing this stuff.

This guy is nuts:

Bryan Lewis Saunders - DRUGS (http://bryanlewissaunders.org/drugs/)

For his Drugs series, artist Bryan Lewis Saunders allegedly took a different mind-altering intoxicant daily and on each occasion drew a self-portrait. He has since dialed down the intensity of the experiment after suffering mild brain damage and being hospitalized, but it remains a noble endeavor and one which reveals a startling journey. The substances imbibed include Xanax, crystal meth, cough syrup, Klonopin, the jailhouse drink pruno, PCP, and, results seen below, mushrooms, morphine, and bath salts.

Competing together worldwide, for stuff like the Olympics and the World Cup, having a forum at the UN that people can get together and talk, is great. But while athletes play, there are people doing real work that can make a far bigger difference than running a faster 100m dash, that should be celebrated. Like NASA, like the people working on curing AIDS. Not that I still don't enjoy stuff like the Olympics and the NFL. But this latest Mars probe is far more significant than this latest Olympics.
