How could we ever say that it did. I was a big Gano fan (yo Gano), but seriously even if Cundiff missed. how would anyone be able to rue the fact that Gano wasn't kicking. He had not developed that much of a consistency to make us confident he would make one BC missed.
You're absolutely right about that. I just feel Gano would have made that 57 yarder, seeing as though he made a 59 yarder last season versus San Francisco.

I don't understand why we didn't grab Wade when Dallas canned him? Did he and Mike have a falling out after winning SBs together?
Because the Redskins don't play in Houston.

Two things:
1) Funny how week 1 Cundiff is 4-4 making field goals left and right and everyone here is "Wow we found our Kicker!" "Glad the Ravens got him!" to this past week "Cut this guy!!!" "We should have know after he missed that kick for the Ravens!!"
2) IF, and this is a big IF, Rex Ryan is fired this year, I think we should hire him the same day he is fired. Because I can really see the jets as a bottom 5 team this year.

I've always been a gano backer but he was never Mr consistent. As many have said lets call it 1/3 and hopefully the misses are out of his system. No need to think competition already.

Billy Cundiff is definitely on the hot seat now. Not saying he would have been cut had he missed that last FG attempt, but that 1/3 outing still makes him appear suspect whether he made the game winning kick or not.

Can Wade play safety or CB? If not he isn't going to be much help. Our problem doesn't boil down to bad coaching. We lack TALENT in our secondary and don't have a shut down front 7 to make up for it. We have a solid front 7 and a TERRIBLE secondary. Plain and simple. It won't matter who the coach is as long as we can't cover down field. We really lack even one difference maker in coverage. IF we upgrade the talent we may be better able to evaluate the coaching. At this point I can't say whether it is good or bad. I suspect it is just average but who knows?
No.
Average d coordinators adjust the scheme and tweak the overall game-plan throughout the game to put their players in the best position to defend what the offense is bringing on the next down, next series, next quarter. I haven't seen Haslett do this. He tends to adjust at half-time, and not always get that right.
Good d coordinators make adjustments at least every series, and get most of them right.
Great d coordinators force the offense to adjust to the defense!
Lousy d coordinators make fewer adjustments and get fewer right. See: Haslett, James.
Specifically, Haslett let the secondary get torched by Danny freaking Amendola for nearly a half without putting a safety over the top on every play to shut em down!!! Why the eff did we go out and sign DL free agents, draft another and two top OLBs in the last two years if not to have a consistent front seven? And the guys standing in for Rak are getting pressures and sacks. Oh, yeah, a guy name London Fletcher plays in that bunch too. So give your hobbit DBs a hand out there when they face AJ Green, or a hot-handed VJax. And enough with the suicide stunts, a$$hole.
Well geez I've thought forever Wade was in Denver then and nobody said boo, was it after then? One of the DCs Mike canned in the post-Elway years? That might explain it then...but bottom line, if not Wade find another guy who can give our defense a chance to consistently compete with it's athleticism, toughness and pride. Because we're not lacking in guys who can win if given the chance to compete. Hell, even our hobbit DBs have been hitting guys in the mouth pretty solid (this is not Hall, or Hall vs Wilson argument starter, leave it). And that's really the only group you should have to compensate for, having spent a good bit of time and resources on the front seven. So figure it the eff out JHaz.

In terms of the talent issues, It's mostly the safety play. We basically have the same corners as last year. Look at the results we had last year. The difference is that we had a former pro bowler at FS and a quality SS in landry last year. Now we have the backup's backups starting for us at those positions and they are frequently out of position. There are some scheme issues there too in certain situations but the biggest problem is FS/SS.

on the gano note: anyone who has attended a redskins practice, or seen a redskins practice,
did gano ever practice kicking over the "wall", roughly 12 ft tall and about 8 yds in front of the kick?

I agree. While I'm not a huge Haslett fan I don't think anyone would be able to make our secondary look like all-stars.
For everyone that was crying about play calling on offense last year, how's it look now that we have a QB that can run pretty much anything you ask him to? No amount of scheme was able to cover up the glaring lack of talent at QB, and we're seeing the same thing now in the secondary. If you don't have the horses you can't win the race. Simple.

I don't think many DCs could come to the Skins and turn this defense into a top 5/top 10 in the league. This defense has a LOT of holes and needs talent period. However, I feel that our current DC doesn't do a good job at adjusting and compensating for those deficiencies. I've seen people that know a hell of a lot more football on Twitter talk about Haslett's inability to adjust.
In comparing both units, up until last year, the defense has always had the better players. And upon MS' arrival, the team spent picks/money on defensive players. Losing Orakpo and Carriker has been a HUGE blow to the defense, but some of the issues that we are having on defense have to do a lot with coaching.
