Monkeydad 01-10-2013, 09:10 AM No. :D
But up until RGIII, he was probably the best passing and running combo QB ever. OK, maybe up until Steve Young, but Fran did it in an era where QBs did not play like that. He was the first real dual-threat QB. QBs in that era were all statues in the pocket. Tark ran for about 300 yards a season and 32 career rushing TDs.
Tobin Rote in the 50s was the first real rushing QB threat, but wasn't the passer that Tarkenton was.

Oh...back on track for the thread...you better believe I'm dying a Redskins fan. Even if some PC-assclowns manage to force a name change, I'm still calling the team the Redskins.
Heck, for the same reason, I still like to call the Washington basketball team the Bullets. Wizards is a retarded name...sounds more fitting for some pathetic soccer team.
skinsguy 01-10-2013, 09:14 AM For this Asshole to suggest that RG3 tore his knee up because of bad karma is a ****ing joke. RG3 didn't name the team, or even pick to play for them. If there is such a thing as karma it wouldn't be bestowed upon him. As far as the team name goes, for selfish reasons I don't want to see it change. I grew up a "Redskins" fan and I hope to die one. I do however feel bad for people who are offended by it and hope there can be some resolution for them if they are sincere. People get too caught up in labels however and if they are truly forward thinkers they wouldn't let it bother them.
Exactly! And the mayor of D.C. wanting to force the 'skins to change their name if they want to move back to the district is nothing more than a way for him to garner more votes for his reelection, that's it.

I would think, especially after last season's run, that he would garner more votes by putting on the face like, Hey we want them here but Snyder just isn't moving them right now.
The name thing is just a personal axe to grind, and will cost him as many votes as it gets him.
Although in some political circles you must be PC in order to survive the upper level demagoguery.
Lotus 01-10-2013, 09:30 AM I can't comment on that comparison since I never seen Tarkenton play. I have seen a million highlights of him in slow motion, but when I was growing up I remember him from "That's Incredible" and not on the filed. Are you even old enough to have seen him play?
I saw Tarkenton play and think that he is not a bad comparison for Gryphon in terms of style: dangerous and quick legs, ability to extend plays to create big opportunities, a deep ball which is both powerful and accurate, and natural leadership. But Griff is better than Tarkenton.
Monkeydad 01-10-2013, 09:32 AM Of course he's better in terms of ability. Impossible to compare the eras though.
Fran Tarkenton was born in Richmond if anyone cares.
BigHairedAristocrat 01-10-2013, 10:50 AM Since this is a rant thread, i've got one. Now, i've gone on record as saying i dont think Griffin shouldn't have been playing to begin with the past few weeks because of injury he suffered against Baltimore. My position is, and has been, that if he has to play with a brace, he wasnt healthy enough to play...
My question is this - at what point did we all become a bunch of wusses? (i want to use another word, but i think i'd end up offending someone, disclaimer in the thread title or not). Seriously.
Ronnie Lott - he was going to miss start of the season due to a finger injury, so he told the doctors to cut it off - and they did. We dont criticize him, the coaches, or the doctors, but revere him as one of the greatest safeties of all time.
Brett Farve played through just about every injury possible – and he’s considered a hero for it.
Just days before the 2008 AFC Championship game, Phillip Rivers had surgery on his right knee. His right ACL was TOTALLY GONE during the game (he allegedly tore it in the divisional round the week before), and he had to get another surgery after the game that put him out six months. I don’t recall Rivers or Turner taking the kind of crap RGIII and Shanahan are taking now, in an extremely similar situation, so what gives?
For the past month, Dez Bryant played with a fractured finger that many said should have ended his season, but he played through it and no one questions him or Garrett for doing so.
Romo and vick have both worn kevlar jackets because they were playing with broken ribs and/or punctured lungs. Think about that. punctured freaking lungs.
Earlier this year, Jason Witten played with a freaking lacerated spleen – a potentially life threatening injury – had he suffered further damage during the game, and he’s praised for his toughness. It could have freaking KILLED HIM.
Byron Leftwich played the 2nd half of a game with a broken ankle.
T.O. played in a superbowl with a broken ankle
McNabb played with a broken leg.
All these guys are “tough,” but Shanahan and RGIII are stupid and irresponsible? Why now, all of a sudden, have we turned into a bunch of wusses? Or is it just that we’re whiney little b----es that just like to complain?

And didn't T.O. play on a broken foot or something in the Super Bowl? I thought that RG3 should have sat the Philly game as well and came back for Dallas, would that have made a difference? Who knows.

I also see it as a personal axe to grind as well, which is why I hope Snyder decides to either leave the 'skins in Maryland, or move them completely into VA. And like you said, I think it will eventually cost him votes.
Chico23231 01-10-2013, 11:03 AM Since this is a rant thread, Ive got one. F*ck you mom for all those times putting jelly on my peanut butter sandwichs. I hatted jelly and told you, but you consistently would forget and put it on. F*ck u jelly, you tasted like shit and brought my mouf to dry heaves on several occasions. POS jelly and your bullsh*t

I think Kurt Warner hinted as saying pretty much the same thing, but in the end, he supported the idea that you have your leaders/best players in the game, especially with it being a playoff game.
